Song of the Day 4/24: The Velvet Underground, “White Light/White Heat”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 24, 2020 7 Comments

Some people are saying this would be effective against the coronavirus. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t. Lou Reed wrote the song in an attempt to capture the sensation of shooting up methamphetamine. The Velvets recorded the song in 1967 for release on their debut LP in 1968, when it was also released as a […]

Lysol To America: Don’t Inject Us, Or Ingest Us.  The President is insane and dangerously unhinged. Even by his standards, his performance yesterday was a cry to remove him from office via the 25th Amendment.  Taking his advice will literally kill you. It’s also clear that he’s out of answers and is just throwing shit […]

Injection of Disinfectant – The 1 Billionth “Last Straw”

Injection of Disinfectant – The 1 Billionth “Last Straw”

Last night, for a moment, I actually entertained the idea that this could be the last straw. I imagined that even the most ardent Trump supporters would say, “Okay, this guy is an idiot.” Then I realized that this straw is a weightless as all the millions of other straws that have been dumped on the camel’s back.

“So supposing we hit the body with a tremendous — whether it’s ultraviolet or just a very powerful light — and I think you said that hasn’t been checked because of the testing,” Trump said, speaking to Bryan during the briefing. “And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or some other way, and I think you said you’re going to test that, too.”

He added: “I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see, it gets in the lungs, it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it would be interesting to check that.”

Song of the Day 4/23: Jon Bon Jovi, “Do What You Can”

New Jersey has been one of the states hardest-hit by the coronavirus, and last night a bunch of stars with New Jersey ties threw a benefit “Jersey 4 Jersey” concert via livestream, headlined by Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi, who wrote a song about the pandemic for the occasion. Singer-songwriter Charlie Puth sang “Growing […]

Breaking: 4.4 Million More Americans Filed Jobless Claims Last Week.  To quote Springsteen, some of these ‘jobs are going, boys, and they ain’t coming back’. Trump Fires Vaccine Czar.  Well, ‘relocates’. Why? Because he wouldn’t push Trump/Fox News’ miracle drug hype. Yes, the cheerleaders have gone silent on that one because the test results sucked.  […]

Not the Onion: Labradoodle breeder tapped to lead U.S. pandemic task force

Coons’ good buddy, Alex is a disaster.

Shortly after his televised comments [January 21 – “We developed a diagnostic test at the CDC, so we can confirm if somebody has this,” Azar said. “We will be spreading that diagnostic around the country so that we are able to do rapid testing on site.”] , Azar tapped a trusted aide with minimal public health experience to lead the agency’s day-to-day response to COVID-19. The aide, Brian Harrison, had joined the department after running a dog-breeding business for six years. Five sources say some officials in the White House derisively called him “the dog breeder.”

This shit is really fucking disgusting and disgusting shit heads like Coons facilitated it. Great fucking job, Coonsie.

Song of the Day 4/22: Neil Finn, “Heroes”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 22, 2020 1 Comment

In case you hadn’t noticed, the interwebs are awash in musicians performing home concerts, generally alone with an acoustic guitar or piano. I’ve caught several of them, but this one stands out — not just for Neil Finn’s choice of a song that can be interpreted as a tribute to all those people who have […]

Who Are Your Takeout Shoutouts?

I feel that supporting your fave restaurants that are now providing takeout is a mitzvah.  You can enjoy great food while supporting your favorite local eateries.  So, where are you getting your takeout? We live in Brandywine Hundred.  We’ve had great food from both Culinaria and the Corner Bistro.  Both locally-owned businesses with wonderful staff. […]

Trump Hotel Seeks Breaks From Trump Administration.  You gotta love this ‘just treat us like everybody else’ bleat from Eric Trump. The only reason that hotel was ever a cash cow is b/c Trump is President and expects everybody to stay there, or he’ll screw them.  This article perfectly illustrates the hazards associated with deep-sixing […]

“Are we at the beginning of the beginning or the end of the end of this thing?”

“Are we at the beginning of the beginning or the end of the end of this thing?”

I was shocked to hear from a Republican who said that we were near the end of the economic strife caused by the Covid19 pandemic. The end?

I put us much closer to the beginning. Some laid off people stiff have paychecks in the pipeline coming in. The billions spent to keep “small businesses” afloat has been sucked up by large chain operators. Even if the virus has leveled off, I see at least 6 moths of economic misery before we get to the end of the middle.

Am I being pessimistic?

Song of the Day 4/21: Lucinda Williams, “Man Without a Soul”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 21, 2020 5 Comments

Lucinda Williams has a new album, “Good Souls Better Angels,” coming out this week, and its lead track doesn’t pull any punches. Though it doesn’t mention him by name, there’s no question who the “Man Without a Soul” is. “We’re living in unprecedented times,” Williams told HuffPo. “We’ve never had a person like this in […]
