Song of the Day 5/12: Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real, “Forget About Georgia”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on May 12, 2020

Though a few states never shut down to deal with the coronavirus, Georgia was the first to ease its lockdown restrictions. Gov. Brian Kemp apparently thought he was doing it with the approval of Trump, but the pee-resident slagged him for it within 24 hours. Now the state’s residents have made their feelings known: Only 39% said they approved of Kemp’s handling of the COVID crisis, the lowest of any governor in the country.

This song by Lukas Nelson, Willie’s son, is about a woman, not the state, but it’s a worthy addition to the impressive list of songs with Georgia in the title. Nelson and his band have released a half-dozen albums themselves since 2010 and also have served as Neil Young’s backing band since 2015. This song is from their eponymous 2017 album.

  1. Ron Ozer brought them to the Gild Hall a few years back. They’re damn good.
