Can Debbie Harrington Beat Kevin Hensley in the 9th?

Filed in National by on September 17, 2020

Hensley is the luckiest motherfucker in the GOP. Let’s get that out of the way right now. He has faced lackluster candidates and Democratic candidates hobbled by a shitty RD Committee in which BHL still exercises some influence. In Blue Wave presidential and mid-terms Democratic weaknesses have allowed him to keep his head above water.

That said, he does have some political skills. He is friendly, shows up at HOA meetings. Calls Deldot when constituents ask him to call Deldot. You know…The normal stuff. Also, unlike the rest of NCC, the 9th is Blue, but not dark blue.

Out of the 23,217 registered voters in the 9th 10,317 are Dems, 6,999 are Repugs and 5,901 identify as other. 10K to 7k seems good, but as Kevin Caneco found out there are a lot of people of dubious character registered as Dems (for union reasons?) who vote more like Republicans.

For example, in spite fo the Dem lead on paper, Clinton lost to Trump in the 9th with 46.4% to 48.3% of the vote. (Yes. 5.5% of voters in the 9th tossed their votes in the garbage. But that’s another story.)

So, can Debbie Harrington Beat Kevin Hensley in the 9th? She is a serious candidate who was not forced to wasted money and energy in a primary, and it is difficult to imagine more favorable electoral conditions for a down ballot Dem.

If I had to call it today I think we are looking at 50% Harrington, 48% Hensley

But what are they actually doing, or not doing, as representatives for their districts in Dover? Don’t understand why people don’t look past the ‘nice guy’ image and learn the facts. Go Debbie! Time for us to replace the nice guys with the women that will get the important work done.

Luann, a bit hypocritical don’t you think? Didn’t you volunteer for Mike Ramone to defeat Stephanie Barry last time? Weren’t you on his team? Weren’t you a Republican?!

Debbie Harrington IS a good candidate. She has the energy and personality to wage a good campaign. However, your descriptions are accurate. Kevin Hensley is a perfect example of what J William Fulbright said 50 years ago- “Most people don’t care how you vote, as long as you fill the potholes”. Kevin does that. He pays attention to the constituents and mouths what he believes they want to hear. He is likeable. Debbie needs to do what Jack Bucchioni almost succeeded in doing in the 20th (Lewes-Milton) two years ago against the very likeable incumbent Steve Smyk, who also is good at “filling potholes”. Jack educated the voters on the incumbent’s voting record, by listing bills and votes. Jack came close to winning and probably would have if the Democratic Party had actually given real help. The race will also be heavily influenced by the turnout of people who love Trump vs those who want to dump him.

Luann, what are you actually doing? Your nonexistent, joke of a campaign is embarrassing. Work harder!

    Vote Kevin Hensley

You’d be hard pressed to find many legislators that work as hard for their constituents as Kevin. So far in the elections this year that seems to be the common theme: whomever works the hardest during the campaign wins. True for both sides. Debbie may be a better candidate on paper than Monique, but Monique worked his ass off.
