Cathy Cloutier’s First Lit Piece Is…Strange
Got her first mailer today. Oversized postcard. She’s taken some new pictures. The front of the mailer has this picture and a similar color combination as you see here:

There’s a banner that says: Connect With Me Today/Vote November 3. At the bottom, it reads: Effective. Resilient. Balanced.
Balanced? What does that mean? Nobody would ever accuse her opponent of being unbalanced. To my knowledge, nobody’s accused Cathy of being unbalanced. So, why balanced? Resilient? Is she still gonna run as the grieving widow some 20 years on? I mean, she’s remarried, and living in–well, you know.
Anyway, on the flip side is a letter from Cathy. It’s weird. OK, that’s not fair. I’m gonna quote the entire first graf:
I am Cathy Cloutier, your Senator for Brandywine Hundred (who lives in Hockessin, but never mind). I am running again to be your Senator to continue delivering balance (sic?) and necessary solutions to ensure fairness for all who live in this diverse community. With your support, we will send a (sic) effective, resilient and balanced Senator back to Dover once again (redundancy) to represent your values and respond to your needs here in the district.
Did Dave McBride lend that hack former News-Journal reporter to the Rethugs to write that dreck? If so, good move by McBride. This stuff’s unintelligible. I mean, they had months to get this piece perfect.
BTW, in order to ‘connect’ with Cathy, you have to go to her website and make an appointment. She’ll either bring the chairs or talk to you over the phone. (No canvassing for Cathy.) It’s like Grub Hub, although presumably w/o the surcharge.
I think I could drive myself even crazier if I read that paragraph I cited above over and over again. Almost forgot, Cathy ‘I’m Really A Democrat’ Cloutier put out a lit piece w/o the union bug. She never used to do that.
One more thing. When you go to that website, be sure you click on ‘Cathy’s Vision And Record’. There you will see that she claims that she has ‘championed’:
‘Practical gun control laws that make us all safer.’
That is a lie. She has voted to bury gun control in the Senate. She has even stated that she can’t support it because, wait for it, the construction trades will abandon her if she does. Which is what happens when you are dependent on the ‘kindness of strangers’ to help you survive.

BTW, an unsolicited pro tip to Cathy: Whatever you do, don’t give out a number with a 239 (not an area code) prefix. People will know what I know.
“Balanced” sounds like she wanted to say the Coonsian “bipartisan” but knew her Republican supporters wouldn’t put up with that.
Probably. And to be fair, it’s better than:
“Not Unbalanced”.
It’s dog whistle for “I’m not Trans”

Great critique but you said nothing about her opponent. Can she beat her or not? That’s the bottom line with the entrenched. Talk to us.
I’ve written a LOT about Kyle Evans Gay. Not only CAN she win this race, I’ve said from the beginning that I think she WILL win this race.
Having a primary challenge was a big plus for her. It never got nasty, which is a testament to her opponents, Eric Levin and Denise Bowers. It was an excellent primary campaign. She has pretty much the entire Party behind her, beginning with Kathleen Jennings, who knows Kyle from her work at the Department of Justice. Kyle will likely be able to outspend Cloutier.
And just take a look at the numbers in the district and understand that, when Cathy was first elected, there was an R plurality. These are the most current numbers: 15,263 D’s; 10,391 R’s; 8777 I’s. I don’t see how she can survive in an election year where it’s Biden vs. Trump.
Plus, Kyle is a great candidate and an exceedingly likeable person:

Not to mention, she has arguably my favorite lawn signs ever, and they’re all over the district.
First? By my count, this is the third of hers. Plus, the worst-of-the-worst PAC has put out at least two mailers for her – and ads on Facebook that link directly to her website (illegal?). The PAC mailers say ‘independent’ but none of the mail says republican.
She may have sent out pieces before the primary. I didn’t get them, but I got this one. No way her pieces will say Republican. But that’s what she is. There was a time when she had a choice. She made her choice.
