Song of the Day 9/18: Twisted Sister, “We’re Not Gonna Take It”
Let’s say you have two aging rock stars, one a legendary Irish R&B singer, the other a Long Island hair-metal has-been. If I told you one was a virulent anti-masker, which would you think was more likely to be the selfish asshole?
If you picked Dee Snider of Twister Sister, sorry, we don’t even have a home version of our game as a consolation prize. The anti-masker is Van Morrison, who has declared, from high atop his dudgeon, that he has written three songs he’ll debut this month about the government overreach that prevents him from playing in front of live audiences.
Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, on the other hand, reacted quickly once that video of anti-maskers parading through a Florida Target store went viral. He tweeted, “No…these selfish assholes do not have my permission or blessing to use my song for their moronic cause.”
Which means that Van Morrison, who has been called an asshole by just about everyone who’s ever met him, doesn’t have the common sense God gave to a man who filed his teeth to points so he’d look like a vampire.
He’s always been a crank. Never stopped me from listening to his music. I might make an exception for these songs, but not for anything else since he was hanging out on Cypress Avenue. I wouldn’t sit next to him in a restaurant though. What’s a dudgeon, anyway? (I could look it up.)
“A feeling of offense or deep resentment.”
Apparently it only comes in high. Nobody’s ever in low or medium dudgeon.
