DL Open Thread 11/3/20, Election Day

Filed in National by on November 3, 2020

The concept of “election day” might be on its way out. More than 97 million votes were cast before polls opened today, about 67% of the entire 2016 total. The fate of the nation will be decided by how many more votes are out there.

Drive-thru votes in Houston are safe for now, as a lawsuit seeking to ban 127,000 of them was tossed by a federal judge in Texas.

Trump’s future looks grim should he, as expected, lose the election. Not only are New York prosecutors slavering at the thought, Deutsche Bank is reportedly eager to dump its most famous client should he lose.

Junior brownshirt Kyle Rittenhouse was ordered held on $2 million bail in the shooting deaths of two protesters in Kenosha, Wisc. Any guesses how long it takes the wingnutosphere to raise the scratch?

Authorities in New Jersey and New York are considering pressing charges against leaders of Trump caravans that stopped traffic on major highways in recent days. Trump has no chance of winning either state, but if Jesus didn’t want people to be dicks he wouldn’t have invented pickup trucks.

Unfair slander of drivers of pickup trucks. My Dad was an electrician. Drove a pickup from as long as I can remember until he died at 85 in 1994. Took many a great ride in the back, when he filled it with leaves in the fall, or loaded it with copper wire or newspapers to haul to the scrap yard.

Not all pickup drivers are dicks, but dicks all drive pickups.

      • Headball says:

        Lol

I will add that Dicks drive a variety of vehicles keep in mind. I know someone in a long line at a polling place and a vehicle drove by back and forth several times with a Trump flag blaring “proud to be an American”.
Irony factor: He was in a Kia Soul

      • Arthur says:

I dont know. So you’re saying all dicks drive pick ups? what about those who drive 2010 mustangs or 1998 corvettes?

      • Hop-Frog says:

Let’s not forget those who drive BMWs. The classic joke: What’s the difference between a cactus and a BMW? With a cactus, the prick’s on the outside.

      • meatball says:

        And corvettes

Honestly, we should now just call it Election Week :). I do kinda miss going to an actual polling place, as I’ve been voting by mail since I moved to AZ in 2014

Voted like usual at about 8:30 in Blackbird, no lines, no problems.

    Noon-hour roundup in Brandywine Hundred:
About 50 in line at First Unitarian Church, more than that at Aldersgate on 202. More than 100 waiting outside at Brandywine HS, and another 50 or so at Carrcroft. Parking lot nearly full but few voters outside at Concord Presbyterian and Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd. Fairly crowded lot at Mount Pleasant Elementary, but not much going on at Mount Pleasant HS and Brandywine Hundred Fire Company.
Where there are lines, they’re longer than I’ve seen in the past, but social distancing is definitely a factor in crowd length.

  5. Very sad news. Former Elections Commissioner Elaine Manlove and her husband were killed in a crash today. Apparently, a truck ran a red light and hit their car, which was stopped at the light:
