Song of the Day 11/6: Chumbawumba, “Drip, Drip, Drip”
Those mail-in ballots just keep trickling in. It must feel like water torture to Twitler.
This song was on the same album that made Chumbawumba a one-hit wonder, “Tubthumping,” released in 1997. That eponymous single hit No. 6 in the Hot 100, a major feat by then for any rock track, and drove the LP’s sales to 3.7 million in the U.S. “Drip, Drip, Drip,” the third and final single from the album, typifies the departure from the band’s aggressive punk attitude and confrontational lyrics that made the album a commercial breakthrough. It didn’t work as a single, though, failing to make the charts.
Chumbawumba officially disbanded in 2012, “with neither a whimper, a bang or a reunion.” So far they’ve been true to their word.
Boff Whalley, Chumbawumba guitarist and co-founder, lived for about a year in Arden during 2011. He collaborated with Arden artists and other locals, but was not in Delaware in connection with music.
“Stop the counting!”, my nominee for the most pathetic attempt ever, as ever funded by a far right group.
