Trump’s stubborn fandom will forever perplex me, but I think it’s related to the way Americans lionized bank robbers during the Depression, or outlaws like Jesse James in the post-Civil War days. Trump fits right in — he’s still taking the rubes’ money, and one way or another he’s gonna run, either for office or from authorities.
Famous guitar slinger and world-class paranoid Steve Miller tapped into that American love of the bad boys with this single from “Fly Like an Eagle,” released in 1976, the first LP from Miller since “The Joker” in 1973. It reached No. 11, the lowest of the album’s three hit singles (“Rock’n Me” reached No. 1, “Fly Like an Eagle” No. 2) but remains a classic rock staple to this day. Here he is performing the song for what’s probably the 5,000th time at a recording industry event in 2008.
