The Rethuglican Party Is An Authoritarian Band Of Thugs.   It’s not a convenient tag-line, it’s the truth.  It’s no longer a political party in the traditional sense.  It embraces anti-democratic principles at every turn.

Gov. Whitmer Shuts Down Serial-Polluting Oil Pipeline:

“Enbridge has routinely refused to take action to protect our Great Lakes and the millions of Americans who depend on them for clean drinking water and good jobs,” Gov Whitmer said in a statement. “They have repeatedly violated the terms of the 1953 easement by ignoring structural problems that put our Great Lakes and our families at risk.

Y’know, if Whitmer was Latina or Black, the so-called D ‘centrists’ would be blaming her for their election losses. I think she rocks.

One thing I’m not hearing about the upcoming I-95 reconstruction is any mention of switching its designation with I-495, a common-sense move that has been debated – and defeated – at least twice in my recollection, though not in a long time.

The argument has been made that the two are actually wrongly designated as they stand — that as the main interstate route up the East Coast, I-95 should follow the less-congested route now designated I-495, carrying through traffic around the city and avoiding local commuter congestion as much as possible.

I understood at the time that the redesignation was largely defeated earlier by opposition from motel owners along Concord Pike (U.S. 202), who didn’t want to miss out on travelers who drive until they get tired and then pull off on a major highway and stop at the first likely motel. (It’s especially lucrative, as walk-ins can be charged the “rack” – the highest – rate for their room.)

I guess the question is whether in the age of GPS travel simply renumbering the routes would actually lead traffic around the city. And, of course, there’s a whole new crop of hotel owners IN the city who might very well like to have those walk-ins.
