UD Spring Enrollment Crashing?

Filed in National by on November 19, 2020

I heard that a very small number of students are enrolled for classes at the University of Delaware for the Spring semester.

Typical enrollment is around 19,000 students. The number I heard is so low that, frankly, it seems absurd. If anyone has any firsthand knowledge of the enrollment numbers, or credible second hand information – I’d be eager to compare our numbers.

in speaking to a friend who is on staff at UD, (was thankfully spared a layoff but not a salary cut) it feels like “things are coming to an end around there”. Apparently the faculty union still refuses to budge, as does the administration on the endowment. From what I understand, so much of the facilities support staff has been let go, that there wouldn’t be any way to support even a scaled back student body.

Wow, if this keeps up they’ll have to admit more in state residents! Oh, the horror!

This post is getting a lot of hits, so someone spill the beans. Is the rumor mill creating some buzz where there is none? Or is Newark going to be, basically, depopulated?

I have heard that Thanksgiving can’t get here fast enough for the University which had a grip on testing and tracking for a while – but now has lost that grip.

    • I had heard that there was gonna be a depopulation bomb that would hit the university around 2024. I can understand how this may have accelerated the trend.

We get a lot of UD students where I work. They’re living in apartments while learning remotely. That is not in their economic interests.

I think you’ve landed on what will be a huge story moving forward.
