Decent People Are Staying Home, Republican Assholes Are Dining Out
That tipped workers make $2.00 an hour in actual pay is a crime. Maybe we can address this when the min wage is fixed?
Tips are ‘way down’ in restaurants. Sexual harassment is up, a new study shows.
The coronavirus has exacerbated the power imbalance between tipped servers and their
customers, according to a new study by the nonprofit One Fair Wage, which surveyed 1,675 food service workers in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. While tipped workers — 70 percent of whom are women — were always somewhat beholden to their customers, the coronavirus economy has given the customer far more power, leaving servers vulnerable to sexual harassment and health risks, as many customers refuse to respect the restrictions necessary to keep servers safe. Struggling to get by, servers are more reliant on tips than they used to be.
I got 2 cheese dogs and fries to go last night at the Dupont Highway Dog House. bill was 10 bucks I gave the guy 3 bucks and said I looked forward to sitting at the counter soon. He was visibly grateful. Its the little things this year please be good humans:)
Agree. We’re not eating out, but we have a ‘Takeout Thursday’ lunch with our inlaws, who live with us. And we generally do at least one additional takeout a week. No national chains.

Ummm, wife has passed and I eat out a lot, typically I tip at 50%. Why? I’m a lifelong musician, the wait staff are our friends in the bizz. They depend on tips and I try to help them, or as I like to say money I got, a woman I don’t. Their wages should be raised, $2 an hour is a bad joke and a good example of the intense stupidity and greed of the political class. As we like to say from the stage “Their working hard for you”, and indeed they are.

Another thing every country in Europe has figured out and we haven’t. They build the price of service into the bill and pay their employees.
Isn’t that simple? So are single-payer health care systems, and we won’t make that simple fix, either.
Maybe with the new blood entering the state legislature, this can be taken up? FWIW – Reforming this was my son’s legislation at Boy’s State.
