Q: How can the GOP survive Trump & McConnell?
I’m seriously asking – how does the GOP go on? In trying to tear America to pieces, how does the GOP not end up in shreds? How long can a political party run entirely on trickle down chicanery, “owning libs” and racial hatred?
The “emperor has no clothes” moment isn’t coming. The GOP is a unified an battle ready as it has ever been.
I’ll freely admit it – I don’t get it.

I’m so old I remember when we thought Republicans kept beating us because they had more corporate money.
In turning this over in my head, I suppose in the relative vacuum created by the watered-down vacuousness of Democratic incumbents, maybe the GOP is a placeholder?
I mean, the relentless hunger of the 24hour news cycle means that content …any content… gets air time. Bonus points for the type of lurid content the GOP specializes in?
The answer is mostly structural. Regardless of the nature of the GOP they and the Dems have spent last 50 years making it impossible for a new party to emerge. I’m not talking Libertarian’s or greens here. No new conservative or even right of center replacement party can be organized in under a decade, even heavily funded. That’s why the Tea Party decided to hollow out the GOP instead of competing, and even that took them about 8-10 years.
It is a good point. No matter how awful it becomes, there will always be something called “The Republican Party” (or a direct descendant like the “Guns & Jesus Party!”) in America. And that debased thing, will always attract 40-49% of voters.
So even when it tries to kill itself, it is supported by our political/media infrastructure.
Game theory predicts that in a winner-take-all system like ours, the number of parties will always whittle down to two.
In parliamentary systems, parties coalesce after the election to form a government. In our system, the opponents have to coalesce beforehand to have any chance of winning. It’s why candidates who are likely to lose find a third candidate to siphon off votes from the real opponent.
The question is whether ranked voting will spread, and if it creates conditions that would break the two-party vise grip on elections. That’s the only possible escape from the dilemma I can see.
The “political/media infrastructure” will always support and foment these types of clashes. That’s where the $$$$MONEY$$$$ is boys and girls.
Rep. John Kowalko
There are to many political reporters nationaly and all they do is report non sense. The only good one we have is at the state news. The News Journal is beyound a rag. Public radio is good. I don’t know what’s next.
I don’t think so, when we Boomers depart this mortal coil what is coming next is much more diverse and much less likely to be white, angry racists. As noted there will always be something that resembles the Republicans, the rich people behind the scenes will guarantee that and supply the money to fuel it. But I think the wheels will come off the battered F150 festooned with Confederate flags at some point and it will be change or die for them. Also suspect the “Guns & Jesus Party is already here, somewhere, somehow.
Speaking of trying to kill itself.. at the DC MAGA rally today:
