For Republicans, Trumpism vs. Democracy Is a No-Brainer

Filed in National by on January 4, 2021

I keep seeing headlines that say Republicans have to choose between Trumpism or democracy. How silly. Republicans don’t believe in democracy. If they did, they would tailor their positions to appeal to a majority. They never have. They instead have, for 40 years, focused their efforts on disqualifying enough voters so they have a majority of what remains, which is exactly what Trump did in his Georgia phone call.

They have seldom if ever believed in democracy. They made their choice two generations ago. So for Republicans, this is a no-brainer, which is fortunate, because Republicans lack the brains to make any other kind of decision.

Which reminds me: Have you called up Delaware’s three stooges in congress yet? Remind them that you are fan of the rule of law and want Trump charged and prosecuted. One law for all…. Right?

None of them has said anything about it yet, have they? The amount of courage you’d have to inject them with before they’ll do anything would fill an Olympic-sized pool.

Don’t worry, I already know what they’d say.

They would describe Trump’s actions as unsettling. They would express grave concern about the potential for damage to the public trust in government, and declare that the situation should be watched for further developments. They might perhaps declare that Joe Biden won the election and will be sworn in on Jan. 20.
