Song of the Day 2/21: The Go-Go’s, “Vacation”
In one sense I can sympathize with Ted Cruz — who doesn’t want a vacation from the cold and snow? Cruz is such a wuss he vamoosed after a cold couple of days. Northerners have put up with it for weeks now.
The Go-Go’s released this title song in 1982 as the first single from their second LP. It reached No. 8.
The song is actually a cover, sort of. Guitarist Kathy Valentine, who joined the band as a bassist in 1980, wrote and recorded it with her previous group, the Textones. It’s a cruder version of the song, which was reworked by Go-Go’s guitarist Charlotte Caffey for the hit single.
