Republicans Got Nothin’ and They Know It

It seems Jim Clyburn knew what he was doing after all. When the South Carolina Congressman endorsed Joe Biden just before the South Carolina primary and Biden carried the state, most progressives took it as a sign that the Democratic Party wasn’t ready for a progressive administration.

It turns out that wasn’t the point at all. The point was to nominate somebody the right wing noise machine couldn’t demonize to the childish white men who make up the GOP. Obama the Scary Black was easy. Hillary and Pelosi the Ball-Cutting Women were even easier. Bernie the Communist is who they wanted to run against. Because they have a policy program that depends on screwing their own supporters, they can’t boost their own positives, so they rely on pulling down their opponents. Demonizing Democrats is pretty much the entirety of Republican strategy, and Democrats nominated the least-scary guy.

Which makes Joe Biden their nightmare. Don’t take my word for it, that’s what a GOP House staffer told Andrew Feinberg of the British newspaper the Independent. “You’ll never get anyone to admit this on the record,” he said, “but it’s really f*cking hard to drive down the negatives of an affable, gentlemanly white man who says nice, positive things most of the time.”

That’s why Texas Sen. John Cornyn’s tweeted the other day that Biden’s Twitter feed is boring, and claimed it raised questions as to whether he is truly in charge of the executive branch. (Pure hypocrisy, by the way, because Captain Fat-Ass was mainly in charge of pushing his Diet Coke button and fucking up everything in sight).

Kurt Bardella, the Republican staffer-turned-Democrat, had the right take. “The Biden White House is not going to play into the hands of Republicans, nor should they,” he said. “And the more that [Republicans] whine about it, the more it just cements the certainty that the strategy that [Democrats have] pursued is the right one.”

It also explains why Republicans who visit our site have nothing to offer but insults, slogans and confused thinking. It’s all they’ve got.
