DL Open Thread Tuesday April 27th 2021

Today’s open thread includes my pick to run against Kevin Hensley in the 9th. (Hint: rhymes with Jave Jarter.) That Arizona is “auditing” the election which Joe Biden won is some fucking punk-ass, sore loser bullshit. On the bright side, at least they are doing a terrible job and the whole thing will become a festering boil that will never heal.

In the “well this sucks” file, New York state came just 89 residents short of maintaining all of its congressional districts. It also lost an electoral college vote.

Buy a house in Italy for one measly euro. But first – the most Coonsian headline and nonsensical lede paragraph ever!

Song of the Day 4/26: The Kinks, “Celluloid Heroes”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 26, 2021 6 Comments

I should have posted this yesterday in advance of the Academy Awards, though the Hollywood Ray Davies was singing about — most of the stars he names were dead or retired when the song came out on “Everybody’s in Show-Biz” in 1972 — bears scant resemblance to today’s film industry. I doubt one person in […]

Two viruses continue to dominate the news. The new coronavirus wave hitting India is a real horror show. Closer to home, we our epidemic of viral stupidity is still raging. But first, I-95 in Wilmington. Cap that shit.

How did America’s police forces react to the Derek Chauvin verdict? They shot and killed six people in various jurisdictions. Hey, when all you have is a gun, everything looks like a target. Why do police escalate to fatal force so quikcly? It’s the training, stupid. Quick, show me another profession that allows union members […]

Song of the Day 4/24: Digital Underground, “The Humpty Dance”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 24, 2021 2 Comments

Old school rap lost an influential figure this week. Greg Jacobs, better known as Shock G, the rapper who fronted the Oakland rap collective Digital Underground, was found dead in his Tampa hotel room Thursday at age 57. Though he went by Shock G, he also took on various alter-egos, the most famous being Humpty […]

Maryland To Review Cases Handled By Ex-Medical Examiner Who Testified For Chauvin’s Defense.  Including this case: In 2018, a 19-year-old college student named Anton Black died after interacting with a Greensboro officer responding to a call of a possible kidnapping on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. “Anton Black died because police employed excessive force, laying him out […]

Song of the Day 4/23: Bay City Rollers, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Love Letter”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on April 23, 2021 0 Comments

You know rock is over the hill when the lead singer of the first boy band dies at age 65. Les McKeown, the lead singer for the Bay City Rollers in their heyday, died suddenly on April 20, cause still unknown. He was with the band for only five years, from 1973-78, but that included […]

First, a personal note: I’ve been binge-watching BoJack Horseman. That show’s incredible. But, I digress. NZ PM: ‘Stop Subsidies For Drilling’.  Quote that makes sense to me: “We cannot take money from emitters paying for their carbon emissions and then give them money back in subsidies.”  The emitters are getting about $500 billion annually in […]

Newsmax host accuses Fox News of being in league with China

GRANT STINCHFIELD (HOST): Fox News continues to disappoint conservatives across America. I want to know, why did Fox News can Lou Dobbs?

I have come to the conclusion Fox News no longer supports President Trump’s America first principles, which is why they couldn’t stand Lou Dobbs on their air.

Maybe Fox News banishing Dobbs from their network is more sinister. Maybe it’s about China. The Murdochs’ investments and business ties to that rogue nation, maybe that’s what this is about.

Here are some of them — did you know Fox News helped China’s leading state broadcaster build its website years ago? Rupert Murdoch’s third wife is a mainland Chinese. She was well-known for managing elite connections in China…

Song of the Day 4/22: Ennio Morricone, “For a Few Dollars More”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment, Delaware by on April 22, 2021 0 Comments

The proposal to increase Delaware’s minimum raise to $15 an hour over the next several years got a House committee hearing longer than a Sergio Leone spaghetti western yesterday. It could have used a theme song from Ennio Morricone, the Italian composer most famous for scoring Leone’s “Dollars” trilogy. Morricone’s scores were one reason those […]

General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thursday, April 22, 2021

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on April 22, 2021 8 Comments

Looks like Mike Ramone’s gonna have to stock up on Robot Lifeguards.  That’s the inescapable conclusion following yesterday’s surreal meeting of the Business Lapdog Committee, where the sheer idiocy of arguments against a $15 minimum wage made it impossible for even the Chamber-leaning D’s to justify burying the bill in committee.  Matt Bittle, as usual, […]

Republican officials in Georgia are getting scared because they can’t convince Trump’s hardcore fans to move on, and Trumpism disgusts the suburban voters the party needs to win elections. Ironic, isn’t it, that a party that wants to rule from a minority position is itself ruled by a minority within? That brings up the latest […]

The Cop Cabal is in survival mode.  All three of the leaders voted to release the anti-democratic HB 30 (Bolden), which would have the effect of severely limiting primary challenges, from committee.   Should the bill get a vote in the House, which it likely will, pay attention: Every D legislator who votes ‘yes’ will reveal […]
