Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II.

In 2016, the U.S. and Israeli governments signed their third 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on military aid, covering FY2019 to FY2028. Under the terms of the MOU, the United States pledged to provide—subject to congressional appropriation—$38 billion in military aid ($33 billion in Foreign Military Financing grants plus $5 billion in missile defense appropriations) to Israel. This MOU followed a previous $30 billion 10-year agreement, which ran through FY2018.

We fuel the daily crises in the middle east, and both parties are in on it. Israel causes a lot of the problems in the region and we supply the advanced weaponry to do it. Need a part of the American Empire to get rid of first? Suggest we get rid of Israel first, this albatross has hung from our collective neck for far too long. That and maybe they’d take Chris Coons in the bargain.

After the Holocaust the Jews should have just kept a low profile and slunk back to the ghettos of Europe, in the interest of justice and humanitarianism. Not too late; they can still do that after we “get rid of Israel.” /s

        Give me a break, Puck.

Find someone here saying anything remotely similar to your straw man fantasy and I’d be amazed.

I quoted verbatim from the eliminationist comment I was replying to.

Yeah, I think he meant eliminating US aid to Israel, not the country itself.

But I always find it interesting that of all the places in the world where people are being driven off their land, the only one where we have more sympathy for the invaders than their victims is Israel.

If I set up a tent city in your backyard and your drove me off your land, you’re saying I’d be the one in the right?

Advanced defensive weapons are required to shoot down the Hamas steampunk rockets.

No, we don’t have to give the Palestinians $3 billion a year. For true equivalence we would have to give them a homeland that currently belongs to someone else.

OTOH, it isn’t hard to see how Muslims view this as another European invasion. And I think you have to admit that, as reparations for their treatment in Europe, Europe’s solution wasn’t optimal. “We’d love to welcome you back, but there’s no guarantee our children won’t persecute your children, so we’re gonna give you this country that doesn’t belong to us, or to you, but it belongs to you now.”

For some reason — and sue me, but I’m going with self-interest — this isn’t viewed as the shitty solution it so obviously is by anybody. Oh, except for Muslims, and their opinion isn’t worth shit.

I wonder when Israel decided that it really didn’t need to be bound by any generally accepted concept of decency and humanity?

It probably started well before Netanyahu.

    • Alby says:

Abusers almost always come from the ranks of the previously abused. Jews have been the most abused ethic group worldwide for thousands of years now. That doesn’t mean we should accept the actions of Israel’s current government, but it helps us to understand the mentality. It’s not as if they’re imagining the hostility against them.

“Palestinian death toll surpasses 100 as Israel pounds shells on Gaza”
Congrats Bibi, you homicidal maniac. What’s the calculation? For every 100 murdered Palestinian civilians and children you earn another point towards your political popularity and the chance to remain a despot.
