Press Conference in support of raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour
The coalition supports legislation being introduced by Senator Jack Walsh that would gradually increase Delaware’s minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2025. According to the Economic Policy Institute, increasing the minimum wage to $15 by 2025 would raise pay for 82% of all Delaware workers currently in poverty. Contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of impacted workers are not teenagers working part-time jobs. Half of the affected workforce are working full-time jobs. 86 percent of the workers are over the age of 20, and 63 percent are 25 years or older. Nearly 6 in 10 low wage workers are women and one-quarter of workers who would benefit from raising the minimum wage are supporting children.
The event will be hosted by Daisy Cruz, District Leader of SEIU 32BJ, and speakers include State Senator and sponsor of the legislation, Jack Walsh, Jim Maravelias, President of the AFL CIO, and Ravi Goel, Managing Partner and Cofounder of Even & Odd Minds in Wilmington among others.
