Song of the Day 6/18: Bowling for Soup feat. Hanson, “Where’s the Love”
How’s this for postmodernism in practice: A punk-pop band popular in the ’00s covers a hit by a ’90s boy band, gets them to sing back-up on the single, then sets the whole thing to a video featuring animation in the ’70s style of “Scooby Doo.”
Bowling for Soup’s sense of humor always distinguished them among punk-pop bands, and the Texas quartet is still at it after more than 25 years, no small feat considering their career started just as the music industry’s business model was falling apart.
For the sake of comparison, here’s the 1997 original, Hanson’s follow-up to the then-teen-band’s smash hit “MMMBop.” It failed to chart. Indeed, the former teen idols haven’t reached the charts since 2000, but they’re still plugging away too.
