Gerald Brady Writes His Ticket Out Of Dover

Matt Bittle’s Twitter is alive and well.  Better than ever in fact, now that he no longer is encumbered of any OTOH crap that you do if you’re reporting on Leg Hall.  You need to be reading it.

That’s where I got the link to this story.

Career nonentity Gerald Brady has finally signed his political death warrant by, well, let me just quote for you:

In a June 27 email discussing legislation intended to protect sex workers, a Wilmington state legislator used an anti-Asian slur and other sexual language, referring to sex workers as “chink broads.”

The comments from Democratic state Rep. Gerald Brady was in an email exchange with an advocate living outside of Delaware. The advocate had shared a Princeton University study that showed how the presence of strip clubs led to a decrease in sex crimes in a New York City police precinct.

The advocate connected the study to a 30-year period when Rhode Island decriminalized prostitution, and called on Delaware lawmakers to do something similar to protect sex workers

“Is the dude basically saying, if we provide free Blowjobs for Uncle Pervie there will be few rapes and few chink broads will be shipped in CONEX containers to the Port of Wilmington??” Brady replied from his official government email address.

Brady literally had no excuse for his actions:

“There is no excuse I can offer that explains my embarrassing and shameful words that insulted, stereotyped and dehumanized an entire culture while making light of a serious human rights crisis,” Brady wrote.

If you read the words in his apology, and if you know Gerald Brady, you know that his apology was written by someone other than Gerald Brady.  Not necessarily because of whether he was sincere or not, but because Brady is simply incapable of putting thoughts into the form of coherent sentences.  Anyone who listened to him trying to floor-manage the $15 minimum wage bill knows that.

What he said was utterly inexcusable.  If he had any self-respect and/or respect for the institution, he’d resign his House seat now.

Which is precisely what he should do.

I didn’t know he had an Uncle Pervie.

I think it’s important to point out that if Brady were a Republican, he would not have apologized and the Republican rabble would have celebrated his statement.

I feel like racial slurs are still not ok, even if Republican politics. Like, you can use stereotypes but well known racial slurs seem to still be a taboo for them. It’s why all the Apprentice footage of Trump saying the n-word is locked in the vault with Song of the South and The Day the Clown Cried

      • You know, he was comfortable speaking in that vernacular with someone he thought he knew. It’s a window into the easy stereotypes he wouldn’t hesitate to share with like-minded individuals.

No, he hasn’t legislated like a racist. But it’s a mindset that impedes racial and ethnic justice, and must be excised from the Body Politic.

      • Alby says:

As awful as “The Day the Clown Cried” must have been, Roberto Benigni made basically the same movie and won an Oscar for it.

      • Alby says:

If that footage had been released, his fans would have celebrated him for it and he would face no repercussions. Congress is full of Republicans who should have resigned in shame but don’t because they have no shame.

  3. The more I think about this, the more I think that Brady will have no choice but to resign.

Which means…special election. There would be no primary, though, to determine the nominee. It would be done through the 4th RD Committee. They would choose the nominee. I don’t THINK the Wilmington City Committee has a say in this, although I’d welcome their involvement.

  4. Alby says:

One thing puzzles me: Why does Brady think that if prostitution were decriminalized blowjobs would be free?

    • Dan says:

I don’t think he thought anything. He was looking for someone to decipher the report for him. This brought me back to those multiple choice standardized tests in elementary school where you read a short passage and had to choose which among 4-5 answer choices was the main idea. There were always a few red herrings. If that report had been on the test, “free blowjobs will reduce rape” might have been one of the incorrect answer choices. I always wondered who actually picked all those wrong answers but now have a better understanding.

Bernard was always the better distant cousin:)

I’m down for some light in-group transgressigvness in order to build pro-social trust bonds among peers as much as anybody, but Jesus…chink broads?

    • Alby says:

More offensive to me than the language is the dismissal of the women as unworthy of protection. That’s flat-out cold.

  7. SussexWatcher says:

And Pete just wants him to take sensitivity training. What a joke.

    • Alby says:

Well, yes, that would be the Republican position. It helps to remember that most Delaware Democrats of the old school don’t merely share their priorities and politics with Republicans, they share the same broken moral compass.
