To Whomever Would Challenge Val Longhurst: There WILL Be Trumpets!

Filed in Delaware, Featured by on October 6, 2021

OK, kids, you’ve seen the results of our poll on which Dem House member should be challenged.  Tops on the list is Val Longhurst.  Even moreso than toppling Speaker Pete, defeating Longhurst with a progressive would kause the kollapse of the Kop Kabal.  Which reminds me, how long would she keep her job with the Police Athletic League if she could no longer deliver the $$’s to their coffers?

We need a hero or heroine to step up.  She can be defeated.  She’s less likeable than Patti Blevins, and an R defeated Blevins in that solidly-D district.  Her district is large for a rep district, so there will likely be some pruning during redistricting. But, even if she seeks to get rid of Delaware City after running legislation to turn the area into a theme park, she’d be in trouble.  Here’s her current district map.

So what’s with all this hero/heroine and trumpet stuff?  The purpose is two-fold: (1) To encourage someone to step forward to challenge Longhurst by letting them know that we’ll have their back; and (2) To get the bad taste of Andrew Lloyd Webber out of my mouth by sharing this cool tune from (Al’s favorite?) Stephen Sondheim.  After all, ‘the play’s not over by a longshot yet…there are heroes in the world’:

Sondheim is thé best. I’ve heard better versions of this, but it’s still good.

Lumpy: It’s a funny name. Maybe you should let him stay so you can keep saying it. But he’s no Turd Ferguson.

    • This was part of Sondheim’s 90th birthday salute. Social distancing courtesy of COVID. Which is why she did it in her living room with a backdrop, and the recorded orchestration.

Sutton Foster’s actually an amazing live performer.

Agree wholeheartedly on Sutton Foster. Also on Sondheim as an anodyne to Lloyd Webber’s treacle. Thanks for posting this — reminded me I don’t listen to enough of him — nothing like a bit of “Sweeney Todd” to chase away the blues!

        • Sondheim’s on my musical Mt. Rushmore.

Look for more ‘stealth Sondheim’ moving forward…

I only posted “Memory” because it was in the news. I had barely even heard it before that, and I find it even more insipid than most of his music. I did like Elaine Paige’s performance of it, though. It takes talent to make someone feel pity for a human dressed as a cat.

Initial piano part instilled fear of Philip Glass, got better with time.

I do know someone who might decide to challenge Nicole Poore and I am here for it!

  4. Decity says:

Rumors developing about a Poore challenge.

She’s going all Poore, freaking out, making calls, trying to sure up people and RDs

    This could be fun

    • And here’s the thing: Senate leadership is not likely to help her out during redistricting. They succeeded in getting her kicked out of leadership. Many senators simply do not trust her.
