Why is an institution with a $1.6 billon endowment, a sweetheart relationship with the state legislature, and the highest paid President in the country being run like a “mom and pop” on the brink of financial disaster?
UD Student Outrage Grows After University Attempts to Sweep Violence Under the Carpet
Chanting “protect women” and carrying signs that said: “My college fund shouldn’t pay for my funeral” and “Protect your students not your reputation,” University of Delaware students planned to protest a second day after a violent off-campus assault between students.
University of Delaware sophomore Brandon Freyre, 20, of Arnold, Maryland, was charged in connection with a brutal attack on a fellow student that occurred in an off-campus Newark apartment. According to court records, on Oct. 8, 2021, Freyre beat the woman, sprayed her eyes with spray-paint, threw a fan at her, broke her phone, choked her to the point of unconsciousness, and then threw her down a flight of stairs while threatening to kill her so she couldn’t “call police and ruin his life.” It’s unclear whether Freyre has an attorney.
Protest organizer Kiera Spann, a sophomore, at the University of Delaware said Tuesday’s protest came amid growing frustration over the university’s silence after the attack and in the days that followed. Spann pointed to an incident last week after a University of Delaware student shot at people with a BB gun noting they received a notification within 15 minutes, but after this alleged assault, she said they heard nothing.
Is Assanis really the highest-paid president? I know he’s up there, and I believe Harker was close to $1 million at one point, but surely others can top Assanis, right?

Wish it had been up months ago.
I don’t even know what would happen if he resigns now. I suppose there would be an election (no primary, the parties would choose the candidates) to serve out the remainder of his term.
However, whoever gets elected would likely reside either in the 1st RD or the 12th RD under the new maps.
Meaning, either they would be the lamest of lame ducks, or they would file for a primary against a sitting Rep, depending on where they live.
Had Brady resigned when the whole affair surfaced, as he should have, we would likely have had a successor elected, and the 4th RD wouldn’t have migrated to Sussex. Pete ‘n Val wanted no part of that, however.

The UofD is one of the worst state schools for instate residents. go to UofD and live on campus as instate = $29k a year. go to st. joes and live there and receive financial aid = $32k a year. kinda a no brainer
Yep. Which is why the State should get a clear accounting on how every dollar of largesse the General Assembly send its way is spent.
Bottom line: It’s only a ‘state school’ on June 30th every year when the Brinks truck backs up to Leg Hall.
Delaware State is the true state school.
On Kathy McGuiness f/b page, she rejects the calls for her resignation or leave of absence.
Gee, you don’t suppose she’d be on the clock while working on her own defense, do you?
BTW, that must be one happy workplace right about now.
I’ll bet it wasn’t very happy before this week, either. Assholes make bad bosses.
It would be a lot easier to defend democracy if it didn’t keep vomiting forth “public servants” like her and Karen Weldin Stewart — people who just kept forcing voters to reject them over and over again until they finally win something and proceed to glorify and enrich themselves. I’m not saying democracy is worse than other systems — it’s better, just not by very much.
