27 years ago today, the Republican Party won control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate in midterm congressional elections.  It marked the first time the GOP held both houses in 40 years.  Republicans accomplished this by consolidating and energizing their base voters and have worked that strategy for the past 27 years.  Meanwhile, the Democrats have berated, abused and done everything to drive all energy and enthusiasm OUT of the Democratic base voters for the past 27 years.  One electoral strategy seems to work.  The other is lacking.  I will leave you to figure out which seems to be more effective.

Led by Representative Newt Gingrich of Georgia, who subsequently replaced Democrat Tom Foley of Washington as speaker of the House, the empowered GOP united under the “Contract with America,” a 10-point legislative plan to reduce federal taxes and dismantle social welfare programs established during six decades of mostly Democratic rule in Congress.

Gingrich’s House of Representatives, home to the majority of the Republican freshmen, led the “Republican Revolution” by passing every bill incorporated in the Contract with America–with the exception of a term-limits constitutional amendment—within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress.

Ted Cruz trolled the US media again by saying Big Bird was communist or some shit.  His remarks about Texas secession got less airplay, but are equally trollish.

Ted Cruz spoke at Texas A&M University about the possibility of Texas picking up its ball and leaving the United States. Cancun Cruz told his constituents “we’re not there yet,” but warned if certain things happened, “Texit” could become a real possibility.

“Look, if the Democrats end the filibuster,” he said, “if they pack the Supreme Court, if they make D.C. a state, if they federalize elections and massively expand voter fraud, it may become hopeless,” and Texas will have no choice but to leave.

Republican lawmaker misses his own anti-vaccine rally after catching Covid-19

Anti-science pastor and lawmaker Jeff Hoverson (R–ND) organized an anti-vaccine rally, set for today. The Q-injected gentleman then caught Covid-19 and was forced to miss his own rally.

Although yesterday Hoverson posted about his case of Covid on Facebook, saying “Quarantining and each day is getting better,” today the ailing state representative changed his tune. “I’m feeling rough,” he said.

“But this ivermectin is keeping me out of the hospital,” he added, perhaps unaware that the vaccine would also keep him out of the hospital, as well as allow him to keep his de-worming medication in the barn, where it belongs.

  2. I know this doesn’t fill the almost-gleeful memes about impending D doom from the likes of Politico, but perhaps the most imposing potential challenger to a current D US senator has taken himself out of the running:
