Delaware Political Weekly: November 9-18, 2021
Yep, more than a week, for those paying attention. DPW officially migrates to Fridays, until I change my mind yet again.
1. Time To Jump Into That 2nd SD Race. Darius is toast. We’re looking for at least one credible non-grifter in the field. Believe it or not, Darius Brown might have been the least-bad option back in 2018. The other ‘choices’ were ex-police chief Bobby Cummings, ‘Governor’ Sam Guy, and Herman ‘The Lesser’ Holloway, Jr. Here’s the point: This district has been significantly redrawn for 2022. It is no longer a Wilmington-centric district. It includes pretty much all of Rt. 9 from Wilmington all the way to the New Castle municipal boundary. Also, Edgemoor, part of Minquadale, Collins Park, Wilmington Manor, and several other communities along Rt. 9. Whether Brown is kicked out of the Senate or not, I can’t see him winning reelection, especially since some of the aforementioned grifters could split the Wilmington vote. Could we please have at least one ethical candidate who actually cares about the communities they would represent?
2. Becca Cotto and Terrell Williams Kick Off Candidacies. I know that Becca is already starting her grassroots efforts this weekend. Underestimate her at your own risk. Cotto is running in the 6th RD in Brandywine Hundred, presumably in a primary vs. incumbent Deb Heffernan, who should be prepared to wear out several pairs of shoes, if she runs again. Williams is likely to face Rethug Kevin Hensley unless there’s a D primary. Interested? Becca’s Candidate Page. Terrell’s Candidate Page.
3. A Dirty Sneaky Trick From Nicole ‘No Longer’ Poore. You know, the untrustworthy State Senator who was in office for about 15 minutes before she got a six-figure sinecure as the Executive Director at the near-moribund Jobs For Delaware Graduates. Well, she has filed a PAC with the Delaware Department of Elections. Her name is the only one on the filing documents. Nothing wrong with that. Except–she has named the PAC the ‘Delaware Democratic PAC’. If that doesn’t sound like a PAC with ties to the Delaware Democratic Party, I don’t know what does. So. I checked with the Delaware Democratic Party. I was told in no uncertain terms that this PAC is not affiliated in any way with the Delaware Democratic Party. Probably not illegal, but certainly misleading. And unethical. In other words, completely in keeping with the ethical cesspool AKA Nicole Poore.
3. Get Out Yer Crying Towels. Our PAL Val Longhurst is reportedly telling anyone who will listen that she’s ‘upset’ that Delaware City has been cut out of her district. Kids, sidle up to your informational devices: Anyone who believes that Longhurst was unable to draw her district to her own specs is an idiot. Meaning, she’s lying (dog bites man, I know). Otherwise, she would have fired the people drawing the maps. She’s vindictive that way. She cut Delaware City out of her district so that she would not have to face the ‘woke’ voters there who now realize that she is hell-bent on destroying their quality-of-life.
4. Mark Maguire Files For Kent County Levy Court. Well, files a committee. Can’t yet officially file for office. Republican. From Hartly. For District 6, currently held by Glen Howell, also an R. I’m guessing a retirement.
What’d I miss and whaddayathink?
Highland Bunker has a good episode for anyone who wants to learn more about Cotto.
Lest anyone wonder why I referred to a previously-disbarred lawyer as ‘Governor’, I’ve been doing it for, oh, probably about a decade now. Here’s why, from his own unintentionally hilarious website:
“Mr. Guy has created opportunities for others to succeed. He is referred to by some as “JusticeDE” and “Governor” in recognition of his statewide efforts in support of justice, fairness, and equal opportunity, thus leading to the receipt of numerous awards.”
You can read all about him here:

Uh, doesn’t look like the site’s been updated in a decade. In fairness, wasn’t the best electoral decade for The Man Who Some Would Proclaim As Governor.
I anticipate with some glee the Senator from the Second explain the towering dump to his new constituents in Minquadale;)
I have a good candidate to primary Nicole Poore but he needs a good campaign manager. Any ideas?
Network Delaware, Delaware United, and the Working Families Party have all been involved in training grassroots political candidates AND campaign staff. I’d start there.
Seconded
WFP offers candidate and campaign staff coaching and support. Here’s the link to nominate a candidate: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOnFQO4YDz7FuAyj6m5EmJ7mh2nUo6C5oOvKIkJJvMkU0Lxg/viewform
