Darius Brown’s Latest ‘Woman Problem’
There’s more, perhaps much more, than meets the eye when it comes to his latest indefensible outburst. But first, for those of you who haven’t paid attention, here’s the story:
The senator got into a heated verbal altercation with Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown, a New Castle Democrat, during a press event on Nov. 8 when Gov. John Carney signed multiple criminal justice bills.
“He was aggressively rude toward me and stood in very close proximity, angrily yelling profanities in my face,” Minor-Brown said in a statement on Wednesday. “This took place in full view of many witnesses. … He has displayed a disturbing pattern of behavior toward women, and this is just the latest example.”
Hey, when he accosted his female companion at Taverna (BTW, that’s a great restaurant, we love it), he at least had discreet waitstaff around. But, a public outburst at an event attended by loads of public officials, that’s another story.
Here is that other story: Ask yourselves a question: Why would he verbally attack Melissa ‘Mimi’ Minor-Brown? The answer can be found in the brand new Senate map:
Just click on SD 2, and the source of Brown’s insecurity comes into focus. As I’ve previously mentioned, SD 2 is no longer a Wilmington-centered district. It extends from Edgemoor all the way down to the New Castle municipal boundary. A whole lot of the district is also in Mimi Minor-Brown’s current and future House district. More than enough to blow Darius away in a one-on-one primary. Coincidence? I think not.
She has been encouraged to run by quite a few people. She’s at least considering it. Now do you understand why Darius’ failings were on full display?
BTW, kids, circle December 1 on your calendar. That’s the day he’s scheduled to appear in court to respond to his physical attack at Taverna. He’d better hope he doesn’t get a female jurist.

Darius Brown somehow managed to top even Val Longhurst and Nicole Poore in securing a job for which he was totally unqualified. They, at least, weren’t facing criminal proceedings when they got their undeserved positions. Brown was named the Executive Director of the Wilmington HOPE Commission in September.
The quotes from Hope Commission chair Michelle Taylor defy belief:
Wilmington HOPE Commission board chair Michelle Taylor said that the commission conducted a “rigorous, extensive search” and Brown “emerged from this process as the most qualified candidate from a strong pool of applicants.”
Were the other applicants Sam Guy, Herman ‘The Lesser’ Holloway, Jr, and Charles Potter? I mean, c’mon.
“The Commission is aware of his legal situation, which Mr. Brown is addressing transparently,” Taylor said. “The Commission believes that every American has the right to a presumption of innocence.
“Moreover, offering second chances is fundamental to what the Wilmington HOPE Commission does. It is in that spirit that the Commission stands by its selection of Darius Brown as Executive Director.”
Is this mic on? Hello, you couldn’t wait to see how his trial turned out before you rushed him into this position? Are you not aware that this is MORE than his second chance? Either you’re willfully unaware, or you are lying. You (Michelle Taylor) are the bleeping President and CEO of The United Way of Delaware. If this is an example of your judgement, should you be in this position?
One more question: Now that he’s publicly lost it and berated another legislator (’50 Witnesses Can’t Be Wrong’), do you intend to revisit your hire of Darius?
BTW, kids, here are Darius’ putative responsibilities:
Brown, a former Wilmington city councilman, will be “responsible for board management and has direct oversight of the commission’s daily operations, talent management, fiscal operations, fund development and management of community relationships,” the group said.
The fucking guy who had to hit up Waste Management for campaign coin, and who has been in tax arrears up to his ears for years, will have oversight of the commission’s fiscal operations? What could possibly go wrong? The guy who now has a history of physically and verbally abusing women will be in charge of ‘talent management’ and will be charged with building community relationships? Does the United Way Of Delaware countenance the creation of toxic work environments?
Michelle Taylor and the Commission Board need to take a good accounting of themselves, and excise ‘No-Account’ Darius Brown from their midst.
