Flag of the Day – North Dakota
I don’t know much about the the flag of North Dakota other than the fact that the design is an almost exact copy of the unit banner carried by the state’s troop contingent in the Philippine–American War. (per wikipedia)
I only put it here to trick you into listening to this week’s Highlands Bunker, which deals with a film called Welcome to Leith
James Johnson and Drew Palmer join Rob in the bunker to talk about the 2015 documentary “Welcome To Leith”, which documented a white supremacist attempt to take over a small North Dakota town.
Show Notes:
A great documentary! My other love, aside from flags and loud obnoxious music, are documentaries! That’s a really good one I recommend highly.
Here’s my list of my favorite docs ever: https://letterboxd.com/v9733xa/list/my-subjective-list-of-the-best-documentary/
You don’t see the old “spread eagle” symbol for the US much anymore, but it was popular back at the turn of the 20th century.
I wonder how many good ol’ North Dakota boys died of tropical diseases chasing “insurgents” through the jungles of Luzon? The Filipinos had to be crushed, of course, because they had (shudder!) the temerity to think their country should be independent!
