Delaware is going to have a big sad today. (Expect maudlin tributes from all the usual suspects.) The Dolles sign is coming down. Capitalism has spoken, or whatever. I can’t get very worked up about a sign for a company that makes taffy, an old-timey candy that nobody eats.

And yet I guess the word “iconic” sorta fits. So, it is like Athen removing the Parthenon, or London removing Big Ben, but on a much smaller scale.

It is of an era. The script style itself speaks of the Wonder Years and beach vacation time, in a more accessible town where regular non-wealthy families could rent a reasonably-priced place for the week on the spur of the moment.

Giant signs themselves are out of fashion; the new thing is to name a sports arena after your company. I remember the neon Dupont sign on the Wilmington skyline .

WaPo gives us a day in the life of an eviction officer as the moratoriums expire. Long read and very disturbing morally but worth the read.

DelawareFamilies.org Showed up in force in green T’s at Seaford to support an ordinance to require that all fetal remains from abortions be required to have either cremations or buriels. Their web site sure looks like any Alt-Right ones with the garden variety of far right issues. It seems that they are following the plan to be inserted into the threads of local government. While under various names, these folks look alike across the country.
