Tonight: It’s ‘Delaware Way’ Vs. Progressive Change
Does this sound like a candidate you could support?:
WILMINGTON, DE – Adriana Leela Bohm endorsed by Mary Ann’s List, Delaware Stonewall PAC, and several legislators for the Democratic nomination in the special election to fill the State House seat vacated by Gerald Brady
“We are excited Adriana is our first endorsement of 2022 and believe she will make a difference in Legislative Hall just like she has made a difference directly in her community,” Mary Ann’s List said in an endorsement post on the organization’s Facebook page. “She is a champion for equitable education and healthcare, leading numerous school board initiatives to increase Wellness Centers, bolster educator professional development opportunities and advocate for youth to have a seat at the table in policy and government.”
“Our Board was very impressed with Dr. Bohm’s long track record of advocacy on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community,” said Tara Sheldon, Stonewall Delaware’s Political Vice President, in a Facebook post announcing the endorsement.
Bohm said she was excited and honored to receive both endorsements, saying “Mary Ann’s List and Delaware Stonewall have led the way in promoting diverse candidates who support women’s and LGBTQ+ issues. We need more diversity at all levels of government, and I’m honored to be endorsed alongside so many wonderful past candidates, many of whom are now in elected office.” These endorsements come after several members of the General Assembly have publicly announced their support of Bohm.
Those legislators (and others) who have endorsed?: Check ’em out. Tizzy Lockman, Sherry Dorsey Walker, Larry Lambert, Madinah Wilson-Anton, Eric Morrison.
Bohm said “Although I know this special election is only to fill the seat for a short time, there is a lot of important legislation on the line this year, and I’m truly humbled and grateful that so many current legislators want to work with me as their colleague in Dover.”
The special election is being held to fill the State Representative seat vacated by Gerald Brady, who announced his resignation on January 21, 2022. According to state law, the Democratic and Republican parties select their respective candidates for the special election.
The Delaware Democratic Party will select their candidate at a nominating meeting being held on Monday February 7, 2022 at 6pm on Zoom. The meeting is open to all registered Delaware Democrats, although only the 31 voting members of the 4th RD Democratic Committee can vote to select the candidate.
Bohm is seeking the Democratic nomination at the February 7 meeting. The special election will be held on Saturday March 5, 2022.
While I like Bud Freel better than some on here, he is the dutiful Delaware Way candidate, coming out of retirement to merely finish out Gerald Brady’s term. Dr. Bohm is a dynamic progressive with a political future, someone who could help bring legitimate change to Dover. I, for one, plan to watch the meeting on Zoom tonight. Let’s just see who is so subservient to the Delaware Way that they would deny the voters in their district the chance to have a genuine voice in their communities’ future. I won’t be the only one watching.
Why didn’t Sarah McBride endorse her?
Ask her.
Anybody got a link for that Zoom meeting?
I signed up, but didn’t yet receive a link.
Here’s where I did so:

This should work

Well over 100 attendees at this meeting. Panelists are either RD committee members or those needed to help run the meeting. That’s about 30 or so.
Party candidacies must be filed by 4 pm tomorrow.
Nominations are coming from committee members:
Mary Dugan nominates Bud Freel.
Mark Purpura nominates Dr. Adrianna Bohm.
That’s it. Nominations are closed.
Freel makes it clear that he is running merely to fill out the term, has no interest in running, and basically says that his lack of ambition is a plus.
Mark Purpura: What are you passionate about?
Bud (I’m paraphrasing): Uh, nothing much.
That was low energy, to put it mildly.
Dr. Bohm says she will support Krista Griffith for reelection. That’s disappointing.
This year. 2024 is not off the table, from what I have heard. Many in this new RD believe Krista will not serve the city like she should, considering her moderate stance on too many issues. This would then open up 2024 for a really solid challenger.
That was a non-answer answer on whether she would resign from the Red Clay Board if she was elected.
I agree. She would need to resign.
Yeah, she didn’t handle it well. However, Andria Bennett has not resigned despite accepting a big-bucks job with the City Of Dover.
And, (and this is a point I would have made), it really only is for less than four months in session. So, it’s not totally clear-cut.
However, you can hear the Bud peeps tsk-tsk-ing from here. They have little else. I think HE’ll have to resign from the Industrial Accident Board, something none of Bud’s peeps brought up.
No one has to ask Adrianna what she’s passionate about. She spoke passionately about universal pre-K, end-of-life, and gun control.
Some guy named Kevin O’Brian says that Bud has the name recognition, and that it’s risky to nominate someone w/o name recognition. He doesn’t mention the fact that Bohm is also an elected official and has name recognition. Or that the district is overwhelmingly D. This is the Delaware Way fig leaf, and will likely be the rationale for the Bud boosters.
Mary Dugan carries Bud’s water, presses Dr. Bohm on whether she’d resign from the Red Clay District. Again, a fig leaf for the Bud boosters.
Bill Montgomery, as Delaware Way as it gets, says he’s concerned that Krista Griffith ‘not have any trouble’ in 2022. Both candidates say they will endorse her.
This is, to a large degree, an ‘old guard’ committee. It is, after all, Gerald’s committee. I’d be surprised if Bud doesn’t get the votes. Pretty pathetic, really.
We’re officially out of the meeting as the deliberations take place in Executive Session.
They’re back, waiting for the announcement.
It’s been a well-run event with, of course, the usual online Zoom issues.
It’s Bud.
We’ll now see just how enthusiastic the voters will be to dutifully come out to vote for the lame duck.
I’m voting for Delcollo in the special.
Great commentary about the experience of witnessing this RD Committee process from someone relatively new the Delaware. Community editor Rae Krantz has her post-game analysis this afternoon in the Delaware Call.
Watch out for it.
Did anyone watch the Republican candidate selection event? I know that there were almost 200 people involved in the Democratic process (viewers + participants + volunteers).
Do we know the GOP nominee?
Anyone who is “not a witch” would be an upgrade for that group of neanderthals, I suppose.

Freak Power write in. Gonzo campaign. People are suggesting this course of action, or something like this, now. More and more people are demanding it everyday.
I’d we can’t win in the Highlands, we can’t win anywhere…
Inexplicably, the legislature passed a law that does not allow write-in ballots to be counted unless an individual write-in candidate creates a campaign committee. Another horrible law by the self-preserving two party system that ended “fusion” balloting previously. I opposed both measures as denying access to the ballot but God bless the two party monopoly system.
Rep. John Kowalko
The campaign Committee requirement isn’t inexplicable. Christine O’Donnell took donations to run a write-in campaign. Did she illegally get a single wealthy individual to write her a check for $100K? We don’t know because write-ins weren’t required to file a campaign finance report.
c/o Highlands Bunker Central Committee
just make it out to CASH
In my opinion (and extensive experience as an elected official) it’s another instance of the two major parties ensuring they will maintain their monopoly, influence and entitlements. Same as the “fusion balloting” debacle. If the only available political parties are allowed to maintain their monopolies of power and influence and choose to abandon some of their constituencies, those constituencies’ interests and needs are effectively abandoned and disregarded. Blind fealty to an organization (choose one) that responds like a pet dog to special interests, well-heeled lobbyists and wealthy businesses and corporations without the ability to challenge or move elsewhere gets some voters no more than an occasional crumb from the table and a glass of warm spittle to wash it down,

The Republicans have chosen Ted Kittila. Best known for a severe drubbing in the 2014 AG race.
Also for suing ChristianaCare on behalf of a guy that wanted to take Ivermectin to treat Covid.
I KNEW he had been involved in a whacko lawsuit. Yep, that’s the one.
It’s an exorcism. Breaking the spell…

Lengthy process… audere est facere.
The person that displayed the flag graphic and had a tab open to DL was me. A retired contributor.
That was a farcical post, so there’s that.
