Marijuana Legalization On Thursday’s House Agenda!

    BTW, it’s a 3/5th bill. Needs 25 yes votes. I’m not optimistic.

    So, if there were no taxes/regulations; legal like growing zucchini or squash, would it still need 3/5?

      I think, but don’t know for certain, that it indeed is the taxation element that requires the super-majority.

      Of course, the added revenue is the only reason why many of the current legislators would even consider voting for it.

    If we were to tie some of the tax proceeds from legalized marijuana to help fund police retirement funds, it may help to pass the bill. Give the cops some reason to love the marijuana industry.

      Actually, I think cops oppose the bill b/c it would make it tougher to stop people under the ‘I smell marijuana’ pretext. Meaning, it would make it tougher for the cops to just steal stuff under the heading of ‘civil forfeiture’.

      We live in a police state. Until we remove some of the ex-cops from the General Assembly, progress will be next to impossible.

        Smell of weed in a car would be evidence of likely DUI which I hope we all agree should still be very illegal.

      Better idea: Up the service requirement to qualify for a full pension, make it illegal to serve in the legislature while drawing a state pension.

    So sick of these small minded sadistic reactionary cop types keeping a naturally occurring plant with medical benefits and feel good benefits illegal. It’s a type of tyranny that should be fought hard in my view!
