Delaware Political Weekly: March 4-10, 2022

1. Three-Way D Primary In SD 14–So Far.  Including just the kind of character that makes Delaware politics so weirdly fascinating.  That third candidate deserves, and will get, his very own intro music. Coming in just a graf or two.  Or three.

Kyra Hoffner, who had already announced, and who has previously been profiled here, filed this week.  She has been a strong advocate for cannabis legalization, and is pushing for legislation to support policies for the homeless population.

When I first saw his name, I thought that Michael “Tater” Hill-Shaner might be another weird addition to our electoral pantheon.  However, the “Tater” notwithstanding, he appears to be a worthy addition to the race. Wait, what? How-ston, we have a problem.  This Smyrna School District teacher/counselor has filed as a Democrat. And yet–this.  Tater?  Floor’s yours.  You’re not tryin’ to pull a fast one, are you, son?

Did I mention a certain someone’s very own intro music?:

Oh, sure, we’ve had all sorts of candidates with bizarre pathologies who have run for office before. We’ve even had real ministers and fake ministers who have sought, and, on occasion, won office.  However, unless the (Extreme) Right Reverend Timothy Dukes is holding out on us, we’ve never had a duly-certified exorcism minister (well, it’s likely a correspondence course, but still) run before.

He’s even ‘taught’ at the Training Center For Exorcisms.  Presumably located here. (Buy the entire 4 CD set! You too can exorcise those who deserve to be exorcised!)  Online and in person.  Ladeez and gentlemen, meet Christopher Gore, presumably not of the billionaire Gores who gifted us Chris Coons.  Here’s his bio:

I have been ordained as a Rev. of the Lighthouse Inc. Church since 2002. I have been a member of the Lighthouse Inc., Church since 1993. I have served under Pastor/Evangelist Barbara Lynch in many capacities (he wrote that, I didn’t). I have been a Sunday School teacher, seminar speaker, taught at the Training Center for Exorcisms for 2 years with courses being taught live and online. I have been a regular minister at the Lighthouse Inc., Church.

He’s also a ‘podcaster/teacher’ at Radiant Fire Radio.  What he’s doing in a Democratic primary is beyond me, but the kid has comedic potential that I fully intend to exploit.  Welcome to our flock!

BTW, someone over at another site says that it’s widely expected that Ol’ Lumpy Carson will run for this seat.  I doubt it, but I’ve been wrong before. I’m still expecting a retired state cop, any retired state cop, to join the fray.

2. Kop Kabalist Going Down?  I wrote about it earlier this week. But, for those of you who only join us on Fridays, you can read about it here.  Perhaps this explains Larry Mitchell’s yes vote on pot legalization.

3. Two Key D Senators File For Reelection.  I wasn’t certain that either of them would, so I’m thrilled that both have. President Pro-Tempore Dave Sokola and Senate Majority Whip Bryan Townsend will run in 2022.  They are two key leaders who have helped to propel the progressive resurgence in the State Senate.

4. Two R Suxco Council Filings.  Incumbent Douglas Hudson, a retired state trooper and a developer, in Council District 4, and Keller Hopkins in Council District 5.  He has pledged to never ever ever raise taxes on the good folks of Suxco.

That’s all I’ve got this week. What’d I miss, and whaddayathink?

Fyi, Mitchell voted for the first marijuana bill in 2018 and was listed as a cosponsor of HB 150 filed last year and this marijuana bill filed in January.

    • El Somnambulo says:

Thanks. It’s nice to know that there’s one issue where he doesn’t march in lock-step with the Kop Kabal.

  2. AA says:

Say whatever we have to say about “Tater” but there’s something so rich in having a happily married gay man run for the seat of one of the senators who voted against gay marriage.

    • El Somnambulo says:

Fine. Then why is this Rethug running as a D? If he can’t answer that question, then he should be eliminated from consideration in a D primary.

I’m assuming that he didn’t just wake up and realize that R’s do not support the LGBTQ agenda.

    • DEEE says:

      Stop.

I’m not voting for someone just because their gay….

      ITs not 2004 anymore

  3. DEEE says:

lol The primary is a disaster aready

Candidate 1 – Sole goal was Weed legalization. (Those candidates are always lame)

Candidate 2- His name is Tater? LMAO

Candidate 3 – He is wearing Trump stuff in his social media

    Mark Pugh….congrats

  4. Jason330 says:

Not being a functioning state-wide party, we’ll see a lot more of this kind of bad-faith party switching among Republican candidates.

I doubt it is a planned out strategy, but even when they lose, they get to muddy up the process and fuck over legitimate candidates.

    • El Somnambulo says:

We already have at least two this cycle. In addition to Tater, we have Kelly Williams Maresca, who is pretending to be a Democrat in her primary challenge to Madinah Wilson Anton after having been a registered R, and acting like one, for years.
