Song of the Day 5/14: Big Thief, “Little Things”
I know El Somnambulo doesn’t care for this band all that much, but this was the first thing I heard by them when it came out last year and I still really like it. I get the impression they’re some sort of indie darlings — the fact that leader Adrianne Lenker spent her childhood in a Christian cult gets a lot of attention. Whatever their story, I like this song’s combination of droning acoustic and pinprick electric guitars with some industrial fuzz, with Lenker’s ethereal vocals casting a spell that sounds like a cross between Björk and Frightened Rabbit.
Bjork–that name alone induces a gag reflex in me…
Sorry. I loved her work with the Sugarcubes.
We’re on opposite sides of the spectrum on that.
Maybe I need to re-listen…
Watch “Dancer in the Dark,” the 2000 Lars von Trier film she starred in. I guarantee you’ll never forget it.
