Six years into the grass-roots movement unleashed by Donald Trump in his first presidential campaign, Angela Rubino is a case study in what that movement is becoming. Suspicious of almost everything, trusting of almost nothing, believing in almost no one other than those who share her unease, she has in many ways become a citizen of a parallel America — not just red America, but another America entirely, one she believes to be awash in domestic enemies, stolen elections, immigrant invaders, sexual predators, the machinations of a global elite and other fresh nightmares revealed by the minute on her social media scrolls. She is known online as “Burnitdown.”
She is also among the people across the country willing to do whatever they can to ensure that the imagined enemies of the United States are defeated in the 2022 midterm elections and beyond. From school boards to state houses to Congress, their goal is to take political territory, and for evidence that this is possible, they look to northwest Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, whose first-time candidacy two years ago defined the fringe of the Republican Party and who is now running for reelection as one of its standard bearers.
Message to centrists: This is what you’re dealing with. Collegiality and comity are pointless.
31 White Supremacists Arrested Near Pride Parade In Idaho. They were dressed in full riot gear. Connect the dots:
“They came to riot downtown,” Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White said at a news conference.
All 31 were charged with conspiracy to riot, a misdemeanor, White said. The men were going through the booking process Saturday afternoon and are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, he said.
Based on evidence collected and documents, authorities found that the group was planning to riot in several areas of downtown, not just the park, White said.
Police found riot gear, one smoke grenade, shin guards and shields inside the van, White said. They wore arm patches and logos on their hats that identified them as members of Patriot Front, he said.
The truck was stopped near where the North Idaho Pride Alliance was holding the Coeur d’Alene Pride in the Park event. Police had stepped up their presence in the area during the event.
Patriot Front is described by the Southern Poverty Law Center as “a white nationalist hate group” that formed after the deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017.
Which Rethug Congress Critters Begged For Pardons? So far, we only know of one–Scott Perry of Pennsylvania. Will we learn the names of others?:
The news that multiple House Republicans asked the Trump White House for pardons – an apparent consciousness of guilt – was one of three revelations portending potentially perilous legal and political moments to come for Trump and his allies.
The extraordinary claim also raised the prospect that the Republican members of Congress seeking clemency believed Trump’s election fraud claims were baseless: for why would they need pardons if they really were only raising legitimate questions about the election.
“It’s hard to find a more explicit statement of consciousness of guilt than looking for a pardon for actions you’ve just taken, assisting in a plan to overthrow the results of a presidential election,” Jamie Raskin, a member of the select committee, told reporters.
Sheriffs Pulling Over DelState Bus Was Part Of A Pattern:
Before the stop and search on April 20 of a Delaware-bound motorcoach carrying mostly Black student-athletes along Interstate 95 in Liberty County, deputies there already were fending off accusations of misconduct.
Allegations noted in civil lawsuits filed against the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office in recent years include deputies using a stun gun on a teenager at his school and tackling an unarmed man during a traffic stop.
“It’s pretty normal in Georgia,” said Gerald A. Griggs, attorney and president of the Georgia NAACP, of the lawsuits. “Many law enforcement agencies are faced with civil litigation, simply by the nature of the business they’re in. Our concern is it appears most of these lawsuits are by people of color. They may show a targeting or a racial profiling that happened. But, again, these are just allegations.”
Allegations, my bony butt. (It really is bony. A by-product of my hip replacement. Less junk in the trunk.) It’s a pattern of racial profiling, pure and simple.
