I did not realize until the other day that Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson were born two days apart in 1942, McCartney on the 18th and Wilson on the 20th, so both of them turned 80 within the past week. Among those who sent along public birthday wishes was an old-timer they know, 81-year-old Bob Dylan.
Incidentally, for those who don’t keep up on copyright law, Warner Chappell Music for years strong-armed people into paying royalties for use of the song — that’s why so many chain restaurants have their servers come out and sing some awful alternative birthday song instead. But all that went by the boards in 2016, when a court invalidated Warner’s claims and agreed to pay back $14 million in fees.
