Yo, Speaker Pete: Ball’s In Your Court
What are you gonna do? Continue to run interference for the disgraced State Auditor, or do your job?
From the Delaware Constitution:
§ 1. Impeachment power of House; trial by Senate; oath of Senators; vote; presiding officers.
Section 1. The House of Representatives shall have the sole power of impeaching; but two-thirds of all the members must concur in an impeachment. All impeachments shall be tried by the Senate, and when sitting for that purpose, the Senators shall be upon oath or affirmation to do justice according to the evidence. No person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two-thirds of all the Senators.
On the trial of an impeachment against the Governor or Lieutenant-Governor, the Chief Justice, or, in case of his or her absence or disability, the Chancellor shall preside; and on the trial of all other impeachments the President of the Senate shall preside.
§ 2. Grounds for impeachment.
Section 2. The Governor and all other civil officers under this State shall be liable to impeachment for treason, bribery, or any high crime or misdemeanor in office. Judgment in such cases shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold any office of honor, trust or profit, under this State; but the party convicted shall, nevertheless, be subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment according to law.
She’s already been convicted. Time to act. And none of this ‘I’ll wait until the appeals have all been exhausted’ bullshit. You have a choice–proceed to remove a corrupt public official from office, or continue to taint yourself due to your close relationship with this corrupt public official. Have you considered retiring? You can all then go on vacations together, and reminisce.
Hey if her daughter can do her pretend make-work job from home without logging into a VPN – Kathy should be able to perform her pretend “profile raising” duties from the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution.
You gotta love that ‘my criminality has raised the profile of the office’ meme.
When’s the verdict due? Big party whose house if it’s guilty?
End of session.
Don’t think there’s a requirement that Carney call the GA back for a special session.
Maybe Pete can hide behind that figleaf for four months.
The reason why the General Assembly has had to go into that post-midnight session is to enable the House and Senate to come back into session without the Governor calling them back.
In other words, the Governor can call them back, or they can come back into session on their own. Pete can’t use the failure of the governor to call them back as a fig leaf. Oh, and the governor CAN call them back.
It comes down to this; The electeds are perfectly happy having a powerless and ineffective state auditor. Its been that way for 20 years at least. Its the reason they all endorsed her, its the reason they will do nothing now. The primary is in 74 days and by a factor of 10 more people have heard of McGuiness than Lydia York. There is work to do.
Dem primary voters are not the general public. I have to think that people who vote in a party primary don’t want a criminal representing the party on that ballot line.
The bi partisan group of KMG , Pete, Ernie and Val were spotted this evening at the Starboard having a strategy session on “Creative messaging”. Guest appearance on how to be an effective weasel with the master of the art Chris Coons was rumored.
Does anyone know what would happen to replace her if the process moved forward? Special election? Governor appointment?
There is a Chief Deputy Auditor (Amy Gulli or ToriAnn Parker not sure who it is right now) I’d bet duties and responsibilities devolve to that office is the State Auditor leaves or is removed.
Would seem wasteful to have a special election so close to the Nov. election.
Closest parallel would be in 2009, when Markell was elected governor and left the state treasurer’s office vacant. He appointed the memorable (wish she were forgettable) Velda Jones Potter to fill out the remaining two years of his term.
I would think filling the hoped-for auditor vacancy would follow the same process.
I think Tori Ann Parker is KMG’s political guru, and likely the beneficiary of the contract gimmick that helped get McGuiness in so much trouble. It would be lunacy for her to profit from that scheme.
