Trump’s Lawyers Have Until 3:00 Today to “Put up or Shut Up”
Knowing how they operate, I suspect they will neither “put up” nor “shut up’. But good for Garland calling the dumb-fuck’s noisy bluff:
Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Thursday that the Department of Justice filed a motion to unseal a search warrant and property receipt relating to the search of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property.
CNN’s legal analyst Elie Honig described the announcement as a “remarkable and unusual move” because “we essentially saw Merrick Garland call Donald Trump’s bluff.”
In the wake of this search warrant, Trump and his lawyers have two documents, Honig explained on CNN following Garland’s remarks. “One is the search warrant itself with whatever attachments. And the other is this inventory or this receipt.”
These documents have important information about the search. Usually, the Justice Department’s policy is to only speak about things that are on the record with the court. But with this move, Garland is hoping to put these documents in front of Americans, Honig said.
The warrant typically will list logistical information: place to be searched, a general description of items to be searched for, the name of the judge, a deadline by which the DOJ has to execute the search.
But it also sometimes has an attachment, which typically will list the laws that the DOJ has probable cause to believe were violated.
The second document is the inventory or the receipt.
.
Trump’s early reply contained his trademark stupidity.
. . . Trump says What About All the Documents Obama Took?
Donald Trump posted this to his social network just after Attorney General Merrick Garland asked a judge to unseal the search warrant:
“I continue to ask, what happened to the 33 Million pages of documents taken to Chicago by President Obama? The Fake News Media refuses to talk about that. They want it CANCELED!”
My favorite Trumpist response to this “raid” is: “The DOJ should have subpoenaed the documents.”
My favorite response to that nonsense is: “They did. It was ignored.”
Interesting to see this play out as so far the Republicans refuse to admit Trump did anything wrong, amazing as all he does is wrong. As ever we all wait to learn what the FBI seized that day, and if it contains “nuclear secrets” will we all be saying the “T Word” Treason.
… but the lawyers will be saying “Espionage.”
Trump’s PR operation is still pretty good. He is publicly saying that he wants the “documents” released. Of course that will be the headline.
When his lawyers go to court and say “No, we don’t want that.” It will be buried in the 35th paragraph.
I get a kick out of Trumps PR operation. I actually have a copy of their white paper. On page 1 is one work – Lie. Thats the entire white paper and PR plan.
Followed, IIRC, by about 4,000 blank pages.
I suspect Trump will not put up or shut up. Instead he’s going to do but her emails and but Obama’s presidential library. It’s nonsensical but it’s Trump we’re talking about.
