Running as a winner

Filed in National by on August 17, 2022

Fetterman has been running as the front runner since the beginning. He never apologizes for being a Democrat.  He doesn’t hedge when supporting democratic policies. Sports comparisons are probably overdone, but there is such a thing as momentum. Fetterman has it.

The GOP is giving up on one of Trump’s gift to the Democrats.

Trump’s endorsements follow a simple pattern: He endorses the person he’s heard of.

New York has a longstanding habit of electing senators who aren’t from New York, but that doesn’t work in other places. Door-knockers in PA said the No. 1 comment they hear is “No Jersey boys.” Pennsylvanians, even those out west, tend to hate New Jersey.

I had to watch Oz’s “crudités” ad a few times to convince myself it wasn’t a parody. He even got the name of the store where he was filming the ad wrong.

Just a reminder – DC-based Democrats like Coons wanted Coner Lamb who made his career apologizing for being a Democrat and trying to water down Democratic policies.

Can you imagine losing to a candidate as terrible as Oz? Lamb could have accomplished that easily.

    • The MoMo says:

I agree. Lamb gave up an important House seat to run an election he knew he would lose – and not because there was no one else running. Fetterman’s campaign is a valuable model for Dems, but we also need to make an example out of Lamb so folks know what not to do.

      • Alby says:

They labor under the illusion that people base their votes on candidates’ positions on the issues, rather than the letter beside their names.

So they think they can poach moderates who are turned off by Republican extremism by running guys who are basically Republicans in Democratic clothing. It can work in certain races and places — that’s how you get a Manchin or a Connor Lamb elected — but only when it’s close to 50-50 to begin with.

Rather that make an example of Lamb, I’ll wager that, should Democrats hold onto Congress, Lamb will be rewarded with a government job appointment.

I’ve been incredibly impressed with John Fetterman’s campaign so far. His ads pointing out Oz the Quack’s carpetbagger status, and that fact that he is far from being an ‘everyman’, are spot on, not to mention John’s great ability to come across a ‘regular Joe’, and even his ability to make fun of himself. GREAT ad campaign. My only worry is, and we all know it’s coming, the barrage of socialist ads that the Reps and their henchmen will be saturating the airwaves with in the next few months. Are they going to work? They sure did in 2020. This was the main reason why I am still skeptical that John Fetterman was the best nominee, and, unlike many here, preferred Connor Lamb. Those arguments wouldn’t fly against him. With Fetterman, they may very well stick, and possibly cost us a Senate seat. Hope I’m wrong. For the record, I’ve been contributing to Fetterman’s campaign, and intend to continue doing so.

The problem with this type of thinking is simple: They will call anyone a socialist, even Connor Lamb, though in his case they would just say he’s a pawn of the socialists. So you might as well nominate an actual socialist.

The people who are swayed by the “socialism” boogeyman aren’t going to vote for any Democrat, even Connor Lamb.
