Labor Day is a watered down American version of May Day.

In 1898, Samuel Gompers, head of the American Federation of Labor, called it “the day for which the toilers in past centuries looked forward, when their rights and their wrongs would be discussed…that the workers of our day may not only lay down their tools of labor for a holiday, but upon which they may touch shoulders in marching phalanx and feel the stronger for it.”

But according to the Encyclopedia of the American Left, Gompers and the American Federation of Labor elevated Labor Day as the preferred holiday of the American House of Labor over May Day. He criticized May Day for its ties to anarchists and socialist politics.

I’m taking the day off, but just check out this mailer a dark money group is using to attack Madinah:

That mailer is pitiful and I heard the dark money group used the same exact pitiful mailer against Eric Morrison.

    • Alby says:

A perfect reminder for anyone who thinks Democrats are somehow better than Republicans.

They’re not better people, they’re just worse at being authoritarian pricks. And they are just as antagonistic towards progressive causes as Republicans are. If progressives gained control of the party, they would become Republicans in a heartbeat.

      • jason330 says:

Changing would be a 5 minute paperwork formality. For now there still are two statewide parties in Delaware – the establishment Dems who are bought and paid for corporate shills and the Democrats who want to get shit done for an actual human constituency.

I’m sensing some panic in the air among the corporate shills.

    • Joe Stanton says:

      Are the facts accurate?

      • Alby says:

It’s inaccurate to say “she would rather attack Democrats.” Pure bullshit, as one has nothing to do with the other.

Clear enough for you, or do you need to fuck off?

      • Alby says:

For some reason I can’t edit the comment, so I’ll just add that they had to go pretty far afield for those “facts.”

A candidate in Ohio says something mean (yet accurate) about Biden? That’s the best you ca find?

A wildlife meat bill is the most critical issue you can find on which she criticized Coons?

That’s chickenshit stuff, and mainly shows how scared you are of her. Do Coons and Biden know you’re using them to attack her? If so, fuck them too.

  2. Alby says:

Actually wouldn’t be surprised if it’s actually Republicans behind this, since they have nothing of their own to tout.

I agree with the mailer that Democrats should stick together — they should be united in tossing out corporate-humping phonies like Carper, Coons and the rest of the castrati.

    • jason330 says:

You’d think more Republicans would register as Dems in Delaware since they are so close on the corporate shilling stuff. I haven’t looked in a while but my sense is that GOP registration is holding pretty steady.

I guess there are a lot of dumbfucks out there who think John Carney is a communist or some dumb shit.

      • A lot of R’s flipped to D to vote for Markell against Carney.

        • jason330 says:

Still. Since then there hasn’t been much movement in spite of shitty Dems like Carney and Pete doing everything they can to blur the line and make the Democratic Party palatable for Republicans.

      • Nancy Willing says:

Labor Day – I am going through Highlands Bunker posts and they have a link to Liberal Geek’s interview with Pete at Markell HQ for the 2008 primary victory celebration.

Watching him, seeing who he is, I became convinced that the 2022 vote for adult legalization was a put on from the start and a behind the scenes scheme where the bill would get voted throug knowing there were going to be retractors enough to defy the certain veto and override attempt at the end of it all. Pete is police and police unions are GOP and they run candidates as DEMs for office in areas that vote DEM.

I supported Maggie Jones for NCC Exec in 2020 and was highly perturbed by the blogger that cemented her with her FOP endorsers as an obvious Trumper. That was ridiculous on its face but Maggie refused to engage formally to retract it. Still, the controversey raised the question of our local politicalized police forces and their leanings to the right.

    • John Kowalko says:

      Al,
Republicans aren’t smart enough or engaged enough to use reverse psychology or political distractions. This is the Pete Schwartzkopf, Val Longhurst playbook. They hope to be effective in displacing Madinah and if not successful in that regard than the “message” will be sent and received. “Don’t f**k with us or you’ll be our next target”.
      Representative John Kowalko

  3. Nancy Willing says:

I also got the tip about the mailer and was asked to investigate the funding source on the mailer named “Citizen for Thoughtful Government”. It doesn’t appear to exist so I will be back in touch with Albence tomorrow.

    • Electra says:

I believe that a PAC or Committee has 48 hours to claim a mailer or advertisement. Whoever put that mailer out should have their committee filed with the DOE, and the expenditure should be listed, along with their donations. If not, they are in violation of Delaware Campaign Finance law.

      • Nancy Willing says:

Talked with Dept staff Patrick Jackson today who said the entity is registered as a Third Party Advertizer and he expects them to file a report soon but they are not held to same criteria as a candidate. They can hold disclosure until they get an “invoice”. He did show where I could find the Treasurer whose name is John Bloxom. I found a person online with that name and will give him a call to see if that is the CITIZEN or not.

        https://www.morrisjames.com/people-John-Bloxom.html

Funny that this entity under a categoy of Third Party Adv. is also a content producer via blogger – link is on the mailer.

When DEED (D’Anna and McGlinchey) wanted to fend off a progressive mayor for Newark they spent $45 K on Polly Sierer but didn’t disclose until the night before the election! We knew someone was spending as we saw the teams of people in vans in the neighborhoods but it was legal for them to say they didn’t get an invoice until the day before the election. So bottom line will be they can delay disclosure based on receipt date of invoice.

        • Nancy Willing says:

Here’s the likey John Bloxom – prolly Jr. to the dude above.

Will try to get in touch with Jr. tomorrow.

John Bloxom is a Director of Product Management at CSC®, a leading provider of business, legal, financial, and digital brand services to companies around the globe, including 90% of the Fortune 500®. • ‘Leadership Delaware’. It figures. A wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chamber Of Commerce.

          • Nancy Willing says:

I left him a nice little voice mail message on his work phone asking for confirmation that he is the person listed as Treasurer and added that if so, I hope he gets his financial disclosure report in soon.

  4. Eric says:

In case you didn’t see it, about an hour ago Judge Aileen Cannon, Southern District of Florida, granted the request for a special master and enjoined DOJ from any further use of the seized materials until the review is completed. This was an injunction Trump’s lawyers didn’t even request. Cannon was confirmed 56-21 with TWELVE DEMOCRATS voting yes. Guess who two of them were? This occurred during a lame duck session in November 2020 AFTER Trump had lost the election.

  5. Joe Connor says:

So, the FOP just dropped their endorsements. Most are expected but the interesting one is that Nnamdi has cemented his reputation as a complete and total sell out. Nnamdi and Trump, perfect together!

  6. John Kowalko says:

I’d like to post a brief apology for parts of my earlier comment. I was wrong to imply that Val Longhurst was involved with that flyer. I had a personal conversation with Val today and believe that she was not involved. She stated that she not only supported Madinah but also contributed to her campaign. I have no reason to doubt her veracity in the matter.

    Representative John Kowalko

    • Since I think Pete is legit toast when it comes to his holding on to the Speaker’s gavel, Val is looking at every incumbent/challenger thru the lens of whether they’ll support her or not.

She probably realizes that some trinkets will have to be tossed to the progressives in the Caucus to gain the votes.

      • Nancy Willing says:

I was telling a friend who likes Larry Mitchell that I am thinking of my support this primary election as setting up the bowling pins and trying to knock out enough incumbents to get a change in House leadership for 2023. He said he thought leadership wasn’t necessarily supporting Pete this time around meaning Val and Larry I guess so that goes with the above comments.

It was interesting to see who was and who wasn’t present at the Labor Day picnic yesterday.

        • Well, Pete IS the leader, at least for now.

His disappearance from the scene since July 1 is one of the stranger developments I can recall when it comes to ‘leadership’.

But one point that is true is–the more seats we flip, the more power progressives will have.

Nancy, are you in Larry’s district? If so, what is your take?
