Matt Meyer Can Kiss My Ass

He’s already begging for $$’s for his 2024 run for Governor.  I’ve gotten two pleas in the past 24 hours.

Not only is he not getting my money, he’s lost any chance he had for my support.

I fully expected to back him in 2024.  He at least had some plausible progressive cred, arising mostly from the fact that the cops and the white construction trades didn’t support him.  I had questions about his hoovering up all that Federal relief money, and disbursing it like it was his money to give, with him reaping the political benefits.  But I felt he was at least honest and competent, two traits that neither Tom Gordon nor Paul Clark possessed.  And I saw him as preferable to the Human Photo Op who is Bethany Hall Long.

However, his decision to strap the carcass of Deb Heffernan to his back, and to parade her around her district and around New Castle County as some sort of benevolent deliverer of development dollars was beyond the pale.  It’s one thing to contribute to a campaign, and to provide some symbolic support.  You know, because you ‘have to’.  But his decision to go all-in to help reelect this serial Protector of Polluters stunk as bad as the effluent emitting from the Delaware City Refinery.

His ‘Realpolitik’ decision made clear that he would continue the Delaware Way tradition of marginalizing progressives and progressive initiatives.  Whether his choice was based on (a) sending a message to the usual campaign financiers that he could be trusted to protect their malevolent interests and/or (b) a blatant appeal to what he thinks, but isn’t, a unilateral Jewish vote,  it proved that progressives can’t trust him.

Meaning, if you find neither BHL or Meyer acceptable, it’s time to find a progressive alternative.  I can immediately think of two names that not only could win, but could well be the favorites to win.  One is probably easy to figure out, the other might be a little more off the radar screen, which could redound to their advantage.

Regardless, to me anyway, Meyer is no longer the default choice for Governor.  He demonstrated that through his actions.  Time to recruit and elect a progressive Governor.

Who’s with me?  Gotta go. Time to ‘unsubscribe’ from what is already a relentless series of e-mails.  Should have done it months ago.
