KMG Resigns!!
Effective November 4. This, according to Steve Wood in his closing statement at sentencing today. She submitted her letter of resignation last night.

Her sentence? From Delaware Online:
Delaware Auditor Kathy McGuiness was sentenced to a year of probation, 500 hours of community service, and a $10,000 fine for her misdemeanor conflict of interest and official misconduct convictions, guilty verdicts that stemmed from her hiring her daughter to work in the auditor’s office.
If Carney doesn’t remove her today, he cements his status as a really lame, Lame duck!
Who gets a 2-week post sentencing notice period? Can’t wait to see her on a road crew near you:)
Carney should have the backbone to remove her from office immediately, not the date she feels like leaving.
Betrayal of the public trust as an elected statewide official. Love how for traditional crimes we talk about establishing a deterent and setting an example so other would-be rulebreakers think twice. With today’s verdict and the continued lack of action from Carney/Schwarzkopf, I feel like we are announcing a state policy that such behavior is tolerated in our fair state. Any chance she could be sued in civil court so maybe she has to pay punitive damages to the state, would be funny if we could repossess her house. 10k for someone as wealthy as her is not going to deter anything. Those may be the actual damages but damn, this is one situation where I think we ought to make terror the order of the day in order to deter others. Hope we can now move on to putting her enablers on the unemployment line with her via the Democratic process.
Why is Nov. 4 a magic date for her? Pension vesting?
Looks like she’s just giving the traditional two-weeks’ notice.
Mighty thoughtful of her.
It takes TIME to clean out a whole bunch of incriminating evidence…I agree that Carney should fire her today if he has the authority to do so.
Carney, per Delaware Public Media: https://www.delawarepublic.org/politics-government/2022-10-19/mcguiness-receives-sentence-resigns-as-state-auditor
“I’ve heard that something was received in our office,” Carney said. “I’ve not been back to get the details and specifics of it. Obviously, if there’s some sort of resignation, that affects the need to removal, so we’ll see what happens there.”
“We’ll see what happens” – where have I heard that before? Oh yeah:

I thought you were making up that quote, you know, sorta your ‘inner-Onion’.
But he actually said that. Hopefully, the carrier pigeon will reach his office soon with the news.
What does KM have on Carney/Schwartzkopf?
Carney’s just being Carney. Passive on everything but budget-smoothing.
Now, Schwartzkopf–if someone wrote a tell-all book, I’d read it.
She should pack her bags today. Who knows what damage she can do in the next couple of weeks. Carney won’t do a damn thing cause he doesn’t want to ruffle any feathers. I hope he proves me wrong but I don’t have a lot of faith.
I hope KMG knows that campaigning for another office doesn’t count as community service.
Who’s staff will she be hired(appointed) to on November 5?
better yet, how much damage will she do over the next two weeks?
I see a new State Rep. in the making in 2 years…she’s sure running like it. The delusion runs high in that inner circle.
Pete’s would-be replacement?
Oh, pleasepleaseplease, that’ll keep the blog going at least another two years.
I don’t think they grasp how poorly (to my shock) she did in her own backyard. But, ya can’t beat her if she’s the only one running.
Its very clear locally that she believes this was indeed a witch hunt & in time, a minor speed bump.
Let’s face it – conviction doesn’t prevent her from holding office.
John Atkins had a long run and he was at least as crooked as Kathy. Sussex has a county-wide case of Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
Know what John Atkins and KMG have in common?: Pete Schwartzkopf as their Puppet Master.
Actually you’ve got that backwards. Schwartzkopf is the willing “sock-puppet” for anyone willing to put their hand up there.
It must be difficult for a “sock-puppet,” sans hands, to “carry that water” for the Governor. Pete was quoted, (in the News Journal), that he considered his primary responsibility as speaker to be a water-boy for the Administration.
Rep . Kowalko
She officially resigned as of 4:30pm today. Otherwise Carney was going to remove her. Buh-bye State Auditor McGuiness.
Maybe she can reacquaint herself as to what a working retail pharmacy looks like nowadays.
Jack Lingo Realty still has this convicted criminal listed as a licensed realtor on their website. How many careers and jobs does this woman want/have?

UPDATE : Delaware Online 7:30, She’s OUT!
Story updated in last graf
“Gov. John Carney’s office has said he could not remove McGuiness from office until her sentencing. During Wednesday’s hearing, Wood said that McGuiness resigned on Tuesday, effective Nov. 4. After Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, she confirmed sending that resignation the day prior.
Later Wednesday, a spokesperson for the governor said McGuiness sent a letter to the governor “this afternoon” resigning effective 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.”
There’s an unconfirmed rumor, that I am only too happy to spread, that former State Auditor Dennis Greenhouse (we’re talking 40 years ago) will be asked to fill out the remainder of KMG’s term.
I’m fine with that.
Fastest rumor confirmation ever!:

I’m still fine with that. Always liked Dennis.
I remember seeing him around Legislative Hall during my blogging days. Don’t know much about him. I’ll take your word he is a good guy El Som!
What I liked and like about Dennis is that he has always epitomized, at least to me, the selfless public servant.
Plus, Lydia York could not possibly have a better mentor than Dennis once the election is over.
Greenhouse will do more in that office in less than 3 months than KMG did in more than 3 years.
