This is how our Democracy was lost
Dante Atkins, a progressive communicator, and strategist, and principal at Atkins Strategies, laid out a plausible scenario for an American dictatorship. He wrote it as a New York Times story from 2025. It appeared originally on Twitter.
BoingBoing ran it in full with his kind permission.
While this is all very plausible and clearly the trajectory that the GOP has dialed in to remain in power as a minority, it does not factor in the “on the ground” responses of the liberals who are depicted in hiding.
I can’t imagine that we wouldn’t crash the economy rather than exists in that nightmare. The majority still holds the economic power. Between direct actions and refusing to take part in the economy, the economic power of the majority would, at long last, be heard.
Have we really got the power? Economic or otherwise? The Dems are in the majority, but even if we turn out in droves the game is stacked against us by the electoral college and what seems to be a small Fascist army trying to take over running the elections. I also see democracy as teetering on the edge, and I see a world panic ensuing if the Fascists win here. As in recession, perhaps depression as “the beacon of democracy” goes dark and grows cold.
Exactly. What will the Fascists have won? Ashes.
