Republicans cringe as Trump 2024 approaches – POLITICO

Reached for comment, Trump said that he was writing down the names of all the cringers.

But seriously, Democrats can’t deny the fact that a Trump run will help them down ticket. But let’s not fall into the the delusional thinking that he can’t win.  With our electoral college, he clearly can win nationally. Democrats – let’s agree to not cheer the announcement this afternoon.

Looks like the media weren’t the only ones with their thumbs on the scale. CNN sez Putin delayed announcing Russia’s withdrawal from Kherson until after the midterms to deny Biden a boost.

Admit it. Everyone scrolled down to see who number 240 is on that list of RnR HOF lists inductees, best to worst (Spoiler: Stevie Nicks as solo). But I especially liked the discussion of Bon Jovi. Therein, they summarized my feelings of the HOF quite succinctly
“ Foreigner, Huey Lewis & the News, Nickelback, Train, Matchbox 20, Mumford & Sons… — each generation’s shitty band will eventually get in. Hence Def Leppard a few years later.”

That HoF piece shares the Hall committee’s disdain for the prog bands that burned so bright in the 70s. My personal favs in that category are Genesis, Yes, Moody Blues, King Crimson. The article damns these bands with snarky faint praise. Except King Crimson, who isn’t even in the Hall.

And his comments on the Doors are laughable.

I guess I have a weakness for overblown dramatic rock. I even like Meat Loaf.

Think Alby is right, the corporate media loves to play games with politics. And it’s always right wing.

Re: That guy’s ranking of the 240 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members.

Too low — Beatles (he has them at No. 2) and Bob Dylan (3). I can see why he might have put Chuck Berry at the top, but not ahead of those two.

Egregiously too low — The Byrds (he has them at 119), Neil Young (ranks him 35th), Beach Boys (52), Joni Mitchell (23) and Queen (237 !).

Also too low — Cream (134), the Allman Brothers (75), Yes (151), R.E.M. (43), Genesis (190), Steely Dan (57), Curtis Mayfield (130), Traffic (140), among others.

Rated too high (but I like some of them) — Heart (152), Brenda Lee (179), Aerosmith (170), Percy Sledge (218), Janet Jackson (111), Jay-Z (168), Little Richard (12 – but I couldn’t put him very much lower), Bo Diddley (same,18) Joan Jett (even at 212 too high), Bon Jovi (same, at 238), the Cars (98), Miles Davis 47 (but Top 5 in jazz), the Flamingos (171), Red Hot Chili Peppers (226), the Coasters (66), Pat Benatar (236) Stevie Nix (240). And some others.

    (Certain biases may be reflected.)

So if Stevie Nicks is too high at 240th out of 240, I take it you think she doesn’t belong in there at all. She only wrote one song I like, but I would disagree that she doesn’t belong. She was the biggest star in the biggest band of its time.

Joan Jett, OTOH, had two hits, both covers. It’s a travesty that Tommy James isn’t in there but Joan Jett, who covered his biggest hit, is.

I wouldn’t piss on the place if it were on fire.

There are several bands in the 200s that I would downgrade enough to knock out of the Hall altogether. (Joan Jett is one of them.) I don’t think Stevie Nicks belongs in the Hall as a solo act, but there are some in there I’d rank below her. Fleetwood Mac, yes — easily. In fact I’d put them higher than 93, which is where he has them. But their body work includes a whole lot of good stuff that Stevie wasn’t part of.

Note to Ron DeSantis: Probably don’t take advice from someone who willingly chose to marry Eric Trump.
