Over 40,000 Americans die from being shot each year. One died from being shot in my neighborhood recently. It was a suicide.
3,000 died on 9/11 and a panicked nation was led by the nose into a two ill-conceived, simultaneous wars. And yet 40,000 deaths by gun shot each year is typically greeted with a national shrug.

Republicans will run once again on “crime!” Meaning Doctors who provide reproductive healthcare and urban non-whites are monstrous violent criminals.
This despite the fact that crime is higher per capita in Republican states and cities.
In 1954 the country outlawed the Communist Party because communists wanted to overthrow democratically elected government. I look forward to the day we do the same to the Republican Party, and for the same reason.
Gotta get those Trump tax returns before the Rethugs take over and dismantle the committee.

I really think people are tired of these phony inquisitions. But we shall see.
Thing is, people will mentally include the Jan 6 committee with “these phony inquisitions” that they are tired of.
The tax returns are a different matter entirely. They will raise questions about why politicians of both parties ignored the law-breaking for so long.
The tax returns are a big deal, otherwise Trump would not have fought it so hard for so long. As noted get ’em and make them public, court order or not. As noted by Alby red states “lead” in all the worst categories, crime, murder and all the rest are what they do.
Let’s be honest – what will the tax returns prove:
Dems: “ he’s a crook and beholden to Russia”
Repubes: “he’s an excellent businessman”
I think it may be more basic than that, it could be a hit to his ego when his returns indicate that he’s basically worth much less than he wants others to believe. More the owner of a local buffet than a Warren Buffet.
He’s in a bind, then. His usual MO is to cry poor to the tax man, so what’s he gonna say — “I lied to the IRS, I’m really worth a lot more than I told them”?
