ExPat Opportunities Update
Presicce Italy is offering newcomers more than $30,000 to become homeowners.
With 70% of voting age “gen Z” voters voting for Democrats, this doesn’t seem to be as pressing as it did prior to the mid-terms, but If you’ve ever had your eye on making Italy your home—and don’t want to have to fight your way to the border once everything goes ka-plooey —Presicce might be your golden opportunity.
The picturesque town of Presicce in the sunny region of Puglia is the latest to enter the game with a tantalising offer. Officials say they will pay people up to 30,000 euros ($A46,500) to buy an empty dwelling and take up residency. Even better, the houses up for sale as part of the deal are priced from around 25,000 euros ($A38,750). Like other cheap properties on sale across Italy, they’ve been long abandoned by their original owners. And as an added bonus, the location is incredible, surrounded by the nature of the Salento area in the heel of Italy’s boot and close to the powder beaches and turquoise clear waters of Santa Maria di Leuca.
Authorities in Presicce hope the offer of a cash incentive will breathe new life into their depopulating town, where newborns are fewer each year.
Don’t get my ExPat juices going Jason, not only is the scenery beautiful the cost of living is lower, in some cases dramatically so. Sure, it’s no Bowers Beach, but it ain’t bad.
An old college friend just retired to Portugal. It’s one of the easiest, if not the easiest, EU country to relocate to. They are actively recruiting foreigners.

Tempting, although the thought of learning Portuguese is daunting.
Large expat community means lots of people speak English, which gives you people to talk to while you’re learning.
Didnt Italy just jump headlong back into a plate of Fascism Alfredo?
Yes. But given how long Italian governments tend to last it might not be around all that long.
