Song of the Day 12/25: Pet Shop Boys, “It Doesn’t Often Snow at Christmas”

Filed in Arts and Entertainment by on December 25, 2022

People who hope for a white Christmas must be those fortunate souls who spend the day in their own homes. Personlly, I can remember too many Christmas Day drives to visit family where the snow was falling but it wasn’t as white as my knuckles on the steering wheel. Luckily, the Pet Shop Boys are right — Christmases around here usually aren’t white.

The Pet Shop Boys, consisting of singer Neil Tennant and keyboard player Chris Lowe, is known in the US mainly for their 1986 No. 1 hit “West End Girls,” but they’ve placed 22 singles in the UK’s Top 10, making them Britain’s most successful duo in history. They released this song to members of their fan club in 1997, then included an updated version on their “Christmas” EP in 2009. I never heard it until it popped up on a Christmas mix on Spotify, but it caught my ear.

Whether you’re at home or on the road, have a safe and happy holiday.
