Song of the Day 1/7: J. Geils Band, “Give It to Me”
Matt Gaetz admitted that he finally voted “present” to allow Kevin McCarthy to become Speaker of the House because he had run out of things to ask for. McCarthy failed to learn the lesson Paul Ryan and John Boehner so clearly laid out for him — if you cede the power of the position, there’s really no point in being speaker.
The J. Geils Band is best remembered for its early-’80s, MTV-fueled heyday and the No. 1 single “Centerfold.” But the Boston-based group first reached the charts a decade earlier as a blues-rock party band. “Give It to Me” only reached No. 30 on the Hot 100, but it propelled the 1973 LP “Bloodshot” into the Top 10 on the albums chart, and for the next couple of years it was a dorm-party staple.
