General Assembly Post-Game Wrap-Up/Pre-Game Show: Thursday, January 12, 2023

It’s official: Gov. Carney’s State Of The State Address will take place on Tuesday, January 17Or on Thursday, January 19.  (Hey, maybe even on Wednesday, January 18.) It will not, however, quoting from SCR  1, take place “on Tuesday, January 19, 2023”. Because the date doesn’t exist.  However, SCR 1 unanimously passed the Senate today.  Hmmm, anyone know who’s in charge of Quality Control over there?

Here is yesterday’s Session Activity Report.  Looks like only one of the three tax carve-outs from public education made its way out of the Education Committee.  The one with ‘veterans’ in the title. Good.

H/T to one of our intrepid ‘spies’.  Our PAL Val apologizes to her ‘colored’ colleague:

Longhurst starts House Day 2 by apologizing to Minor-Brown

I can’t recall the last time that ‘colored’, as it pertains to race, even crossed my mind.  The two hugged it out, though.  Rep. Minor-Brown knows what’s in Longhurst’s heart. So do I.

Today’s House Agenda (first of the session) features two innocuous bills.  One is a Charter Change for the Town of Magnolia.  The other, HB 25 (Longhurst), appears to be a ‘must-pass’ bill that clarifies ‘that a relief rebate issued under the 2022 Delaware Relief Rebate Program during the period that the federal major disaster declaration exists for the State of Delaware is intended to be a qualified disaster relief payment under § 139 of the Internal Revenue Code.’  All of House and Senate leadership are on the bill as are numerous others, and it’s on the fast track to be on the Governor’s desk by the end of January before the General Assembly breaks for Joint Finance Committee hearings.

There are no committee meetings scheduled for today, and the Senate has no Agenda.

Hey, some days be like this.  I haven’t earned what I’m not being paid–but it’s not my fault!
