It’s a zoom thing, so no excuses. And don’t give me that “I’m working” or “I’ll be at work.” bullshit.
“What’s the Matter with Delaware? A Book Talk & Discussion Event”
Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 4:00pm
Via Zoom (Registration required)
At this event, author Hal Weitzman will discuss his recent book, What’s the Matter with Delaware?: How the First State Has Favored the Rich, Powerful, and Criminal – and How It Costs Us All, in conversation with University of Delaware faculty, and the audience.
The legal home to over a million companies, Delaware has more registered businesses than residents. Why do virtually all of the biggest corporations in the United States register there? Why do so many small companies choose to set up in Delaware rather than their home states? Why do wealthy individuals form multiple layers of private companies in the state? What’s the Matter with Delaware? reveals the systematic enterprise that lies behind the state’s business-friendly veneer – and the global consequences of Delaware’s influence on corporate America.
Hal Weitzman is executive director for intellectual capital at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He is editor-in-chief of Chicago Booth Review and host of The Big Question, Booth’s monthly discussion series. From 2000 to 2012 he was a reporter and editor at the Financial Times; his reporting has also appeared in The Economist, The Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, The Miami Herald, New Statesman, The Irish Times, Slate, and Politico.
Commenters: Dr. Stephen Metraux (The Biden School) and Dr. Dael A. Norwood (History Department).
This event is co-sponsored by the History Department, the Hagley Program in the History of Capitalism, Technology, and Culture, the Political Science & International Relations Department, and the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy & Administration at the University of Delaware.
