Guess Who Wanted Guns Banned At Event In Florida.  Hint: it was at a victory celebration for–himself:

As Gov. Ron DeSantis prepared for an election night party in downtown Tampa last year, city officials received a surprising — and politically sensitive — request.

The Republican governor’s campaign wanted weapons banned from his victory celebration at the city-run Tampa Convention Center, a city official said in emails obtained by The Washington Post. And the campaign suggested that the city take responsibility forthe firearms ban, the official said — not the governor, who has been a vocal supporter of gun rights.

“DeSantis/his campaign will not tell their attendees they are not permitted to carry because of the political optics,” Chase Finch, the convention center’s safety and security manager, said in an Oct. 28 email to other city officials about the request, which was conveyed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), a state police agency led by a DeSantis appointee.

The previously unreported request to Tampa officials illuminates a touchy issue for DeSantis as he weighs a potential bid for the Republican presidential nomination. Even as DeSantis has earned the highest rating from the National Rifle Association’s political arm, gun owners are balking at his recent appearances at events where firearms were prohibited, according to interviews and online posts.

George Santos Part Deux?  Is Luna shorthand for lunatic?:

A new investigation suggests the Republican Party could have another freshman member of Congress with a flair for fabulism, after its early weeks in power in the House have been overshadowed by the numerous falsehoods and fabrications told by Representative George Santos.

Representative Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, a GOP congresswoman who flipped a redistricted area outside of Tampa with the backing of Donald Trump, may have exaggerated or changed details about her ethnic heritage, family life, and personal experiences with safety and firearms, according to reporting from the Washington Post.

Rep Luna was born Anna Mayerhofer, but changed her name in what she said was an homage to her mother’s Mexican American family.

On the campaign trail, Ms Luna described having a tough childhood that left her “battle hardened” and with a “broken home mentality,” where she and her single mother lacked “a strong extended network of people.”

Family members told the Post this wasn’t their experience, sharing photos of Ms Luna attending numerous family events, and describing extended family members picking her up as a girl from school when her mother was studying to put herself through law school.

There’s lots more.  Suffice it to say that Fox News has already circled the wagons around her.  Presumably because Santos has made it safe for lesser prevaricators to survive.

“It’s A Marvelous Time For Some Moondust”.  A literal moonshot to address climate change?:

The seemingly outlandish concept, outlined in a new research paper, would involve creating a “solar shield” in space by mining the moon of millions of tons of its dust and then “ballistically eject[ing]” it to a point in space about 1 million miles from Earth, where the floating grains would partially block incoming sunlight.

“A really exciting part of our study was the realization that the natural lunar dust grains are just the right size and composition for efficiently scattering sunlight away from Earth,” said Ben Bromley, a theoretical astrophysicist at the University of Utah, who led the research, published in Plos Climate. “Since it takes much less energy to launch these grains from the moon’s surface, as compared with an Earth launch, the ‘moonshot’ idea really stood out for us.”

My careful scientific analysis (perhaps Unstable Isotope will back me up on this) reveals that we will need the equivalent of 500,000 Philly Phanatics shooting out moondust from their hot dog guns in order to save the planet.  On top of everything else, it’s a jobs creator.

Mike Ramone, Are You Reading This?  You too can join with troglodytes from other states to roll back protections for child workers:

As child labor law violations have been on the rise in the US, some state legislators are pushing for changes at state and federal levels to roll back protections in what some see as a threat to return child labor to the country.

The laws aim to expand permissible work hours, broaden the types of jobs young workers are permitted to do, and shield employers from liability for injuries, illnesses or workplace fatalities involving very young workers.

In fact, didn’t you cut virtually this exact same deal with Speaker Pete a few years back?:

In Iowa, Republican legislators introduced a bill in January to expand the types of work 14- and 15-year-olds would be permitted to do as part of approved training programs, extend allowable work hours, and exempt employers from liability if these young workers are sickened, injured or killed on the job.

“It’s just crazy to me that we are re-litigating a lot of things that seem to have been settled 100, 120 or 140 years ago,” said Charlie Wishman, president of the Iowa AFL-CIO, which is opposing the bill.

The only difference is (was) that you cut the deal with alleged Democrats.  Just something for everyone to keep in mind with 2024 looming.

More DNREC Bullshit.  Yep, the Big Fish Group has swallowed up the little fish restaurant in the Indian River Marina:

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources made it official Friday: the Big Fish Restaurant Group will operate the restaurant at Indian River Marina.

Meet Shawn Garvin, Culinary Expert:

“The Indian River Marina restaurant RFP was rated using seven criteria categories, with 80% of the total score including quality and diversity of the menu; past performance; the vendor’s action plan; vendor’s financial stability; creativity in planning; and designing and delivering a successful establishment, and revenue paid to the state equating for 20% of the total score.”

‘Quality of the menu’.  Did DNREC have food-tasters to make a determination?  Why wasn’t Our Very Own Restaurant Critic invited to participate?

Not considered by Garvin was whether change was necessary.
