Song of the Day 3/2: Big Louisiana, Willy Rafus and Arthur Davis, “Let Your Hammer Ring”
A bunch of millionaires known as “U.S. senators” have been sitting around in their Washington, D.C., offices pretending that the richest country in the history of the world simply can’t afford to take care of its retirees if they stop working at 67. They want you to keep swinging that hammer until you’re 70.
As is often the case, the “bipartisan” effort is mostly Republican, but DINO Tim Kaine of Virginia and Independent Angus King of Maine are there to provide cover. Republicans don’t want to take the blame for yet another inhumane policy, and these inflamed, hemorrhoidal assholes, puffed up with self-importance, are only too happy to help out.
Don’t like it? Too fucking bad. Shut the fuck up and swing that hammer, boy.
This prison work song is available in several recordings on the internet. It was apparently widely known on chain gangs throughout our noble Southern states. This version was recorded at notorious Angola prison in Louisiana, others at prisons in Texas and Georgia. The words and pace very according to the location and job, but the underlying message is consistent — shut the fuck up and swing that hammer. You can rest when you’re dead.
If this fails no doubt the Republicans will take an attitude of “no half measures, Medicare and Social Security Must Die!”. And any residual funds given to the struggling super rich. Can’t help but wonder when the bullets will fly.
