Song of the Day 3/10: The Dave Clark Five, “Catch Us If You Can”
Stop me if you’ve heard this one: The leader of the Trump crime family is about to be indicted. Yeah, sure he is. He’s been indictable for 40 years and it hasn’t happened yet. This should be his family’s theme song.
The Dave Clark Five was one of the most popular bands in the first British Invasion, second only to the Beatles. They landed 23 singles in the U.S Hot 100 from 1964 through 1967 — they were actually more popular in the States than in the UK — and promoted them with 18 appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show. Like the Beatles, they also ventured into movies — this 1965 tune served as the title track for their John Boorman-directed film (retitled “Having a Wild Weekend” for U.S. release). It reached No. 4 in the U.S., No. 5 in the UK.
The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, shortly after two of the original quintet had died.
Remember them well, the came on hard and went a ways then died away. Have to admit I was surprised.
Robert Blake passed; got away with murder, also responsible for a very cool TV show with one of the greatest theme songs, which I have hummed a few times when I hear about insurrectionists being sentenced.
Blake was also an original “Little Rascal” !
